Guest guest
> when Vannessa in Berkeley has her 2 for $2 vegan sandwiches (made > with vegan mayonnaise), I will post a dinner get-together there. Greetings friends, It always feels wonderful to get a good deal, but it's important to realize the repercussions of our actions. As a movement, we need to understand that it is up to us (the vegetarian community) to support vegetarian businesses. Buying two vegan sandwiches for two bucks will certainly get us in the door, but it's the other 364 days when they need us to pay full price to help sustain their business. By doing so, we're investing in the future of the vegetarian foods industry and encouraging other businesses to enter the market. I've got dining discount cards through various organizations, but I rarely use them knowing that the deducted 10% or 15% is the profit margin on which the veg restaurant depends. I see more and more coupons available for natural food products, but I apply the same logic and don't use them. They're intended for new vegetarians to get them to try their stuff. I already know the product is there and really don't want to take away from any potential profit the business is making. I also tip 20% in veg restaurants to encourage the wait staff to stay with the business. I want to see vegetarian businesses thrive, and I feel every little bit helps. Since we know how difficult it is to make it in the vegetarian restaurant or manufacturing business, the vegetarian community should give them our full support. Use coupons for the large companies with budgets the size of small countries (if you need their products or choose to support them). For the smaller, vegetarian-owned and/or operated companies , recycle 'em or give them to a non/new veg who wouldn't otherwise buy the product. We vote vegetarian with every dollar we spend each day. Let's give them our full support. All the best, Colleen .. . . . . . . . . Colleen Holland Advertising Director VegNews, North America's monthly vegetarian newspaper with 100,000 readers!
