Guest guest
Having received several invitations to join a new veggie group, veggie_ singles, with the only requirement being vegetarian and single, I and more than 150 others joined. The members have recently received a group message from the owner/moderator detailing planning some upcoming events. The members were also informed of a change in policy, that members over 45 are not invited nor wecolme to attend planned social events. The owner/moderator also stated that even more restrictive requirements are in the offing. I am questioning the new policy of excluding certain aged persons from participating in the groups social events. As a vegetarian, I am appalled at this blatant form of discrimination. This is behavior I would expect of carnavores. Since the veggie singles group site does not post any members messages the only way to communicate with other members is through as many, if not most, of the members belong to both groups. Because of this recruiting from the ranks of group, I feel that any adverse policies of veggie_singles also has an adverse effect on and all vegetarians. I sent an e-mail to the owner/moderator of veggie_singles questioning the appropriate-ness of this change in participation reqirements. By an oversite on their part it got posted. I received numerous e-mails from veggie_singles members agreeing with my position. Some said they had also sent a reply to this effect to the veggie singles group owner/moderator (renewing my faith in vegetarians), but I and other members wouldn't know this as members messages are normally not posted (except my message which aparently got posted by accident). I would advise veggie_singles members not to question the owner/moderator of that group if you want to remain with the singles group. After receiving my message, I was unceremoniously dropped from the group without even a " Dear William letter " of goodbye. I'm crushed. William Scot My message to the owner/moderator of veggie_singles follows: veggie_singles I am a little confused at the new requirements for participation in the veggie singles social gatherings. Is the age requirement now 20 to 45? I don't remember any question in the poll which asked if the member would like to exclude anyone over 45. Was it by majority vote to exclude those over 45? Maybe I just missed a question or did the last two age groups of the poll just get thrown out? Since the vast majority of the poll voted " straights " , does that mean that is a vote not to let " gays " , " lesbians " , or others into the events? You didn't mention excluding Bi's, even though they only got 2 votes in the poll(the same number of votes the 45 and over group supposedly got). I guess I can assume that they are invited, that is if they are not over 45. When you say that you might narrow the restrictions to the participants even farther, does that mean you might poll members to see whether the are White, Black, Hispanic, Oriental, or other? If Whites win that poll, does that mean they have voted out other racial groups? What about mixed? Maybe participation could be based on percentage of mixture. On the poll after that, you could also narrow it down farther, to Religion. How about political party, height and weight... boy, there is no limit to the possibilities. You could even enter all of this into a computer and match people up, one to one, not giving anyone the opportunity to meet a variety of others. Just think, then you wouldn't need to have these get-togethers. But be careful of all these exclusions, the next excluded group just might include you. Maybe you could add another poll. How many vegetarians would rather have a group of inclusion rather than exclusion? William Scot Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus.
