Guest guest
Hi Tal and All : ) There has been a discussion about what to feed our feline friends. We talked about the fact that most commercial cat foods use chickens that were deemed " unfit for human consumption " . Wellness used to state that is used " human grade " chicken, but now says " deboned chicken " . I wrote to them about this and the following is the reply. Human-grade/Deboned is the same definition for the same ingredient. Regulatory groups (FDA) however, prefer that we state de-boned chicken rather than human-grade because people are tempted to eat it. The ingredients state human-grade but the formulation and nutritional values were made for pets and not for humans. We have to use this term per AAFCO (American Association of Food Control Officials), because boneless is not in the AAFCO Glossary. We are pursuing AAFCO and trying to have them process a definition of de-boned officially by them. I would add though that of course these have got to be factory farmed chickens. Eaglepack uses organic, " free range " chickens that were raised by Amish and Mennonite farmers , but it is apparently hard to get stores around here to order it (you can get it at eaglepack.com). I haven't tried to get a store to order it yet, so I don't know why this is difficult. Stephanie
