Guest guest
Hi. I receieved the following from PETA. It originally had a heartbreaking picture of an ulcerated cat from this place, but I had to delete it so as not to send an attachment. Do you think that people in the Bay Area contacting these Los Angeles officials would be helpful? Stephanie PETA MEMBER ACTION ALERT Animals in Los Angeles " Rescue " Need Your Voice Click here to view photographs of animals from Puss & Pooch. For several years, PETA has received reports of animals suffering at Angel Puss & Pooch Rescue, a facility located at 7508 Topanga Canyon Blvd in Los Angeles, that advertises itself as " no kill " and is reportedly operated by a woman named Marge Weems. Complaints have included overcrowding, animals deprived of proper food and water, animals left to suffer severe upper respiratory ailments and other diseases without proper veterinary attention, and so on. In Los Angeles County (a different jurisdiction from that of the city), Marge Weems currently faces one count of felony cruelty to animals and four counts of misdemeanor animal neglect in connection with the treatment of 60 cats she was " caring " for at her home in Dayton Canyon. These cats were reportedly continuously confined to " filth-encrusted wire cages " at her home, which is how conditions are described to us at the rescue/store, where approximately 300 cats are kept. Recently, a Puss & Pooch adopter contacted PETA with a disturbing eyewitness account from inside the store. The two cats he adopted were listed by a veterinarian as " too lethargic and weak to eat " on the day of adoption. The cats were so severely dehydrated, they had to be put on fluids. One had to be force-fed. The vet also noted malnourishment, upper respiratory disease, and emaciation, as well as sarcoptic mange, feline acne, diarrhea, vomiting, fungal infection, and ear mites. This adopter, along with another eyewitness, documented conditions at the store, provided a detailed written statement to authorities and obtained veterinarian's statements regarding the animals' conditions. Click here to read excerpts from eyewitness statements. Los Angeles City authorities have received all this information, along with previous complaints and disturbing evidence of suffering at Puss & Pooch, yet the city has not taken action. Please politely and immediately contact the authorities in charge of the case and urge them to do something now to ensure that animals in this facility receive medical care if they are suffering from diseases and have potable water-or that they be removed from the situation. California is home to some of the most stringent animal protection laws in the nation; ask authorities to enforce these laws, for the animals' sake.
