Guest guest
Hi Everyone : ) I just got this from In Defense of Animals (IDA). Stephanie As Dec 31st approaches, the fate of Massachusetts bill H. 4409, a which would give students in that state the choice to opt out of dissection, is still unclear. NO MATTER WHERE you live, the defeat of Dissection Choice in Massachusetts is a defeat for all of those seeking dissection choice everywhere. Massachusetts was the first state to introduce dissection choice legislation, is home to more biotech companies than in all of Western Europe, and is often the largest recipient of NIH research dollars. IF YOU CARE ABOUT ANIMALS IN LABS, PLEASE CARE ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING TO DISSECTION CHOICE IN MA. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Senator William Frist, the new Senate majority leader, admitted to having adopted cats from shelters to use for dissection and vivisection while a medical student at Harvard. In his autobiography he came to call his actions " heinous and dishonest " . Contact Senator Frist and ask him to contact MA Republican Acting Governor Jane Swift and Republican Governor Elect Mitt Romney to ask them to do whatever is necessary to pass Dissection Choice legislation in Frist's alma mater's state. Thank Senator Frist for " seeing the light " and ask him to use his considerable power within the Republican party to guarantee that all students in Massachusetts--and across the nation--will be allowed to choose not to dissect. Right now, the Massachusetts Teacher's Association (MTA) continues to lobby against Dissection Choice. Senator Pacheco (D) is now successfully blocking passage of H. 4409, bowing to pressure from the MTA, with whom he has a 100% score card. PLEASE CC your email or letter to Senator Frist to: MTA President Catherine Boudreau and MA Senator Marc Pacheco and let them know that the entire nation is watching. Let them know that DISSECTION CHOICE MUST BE A PROTECTED RIGHT OF EVERY STUDENT EVERYWHERE. Write to: Senator William Frist: http://frist.senate.gov/contact.cfm Cc: Massachusetts Teachers' Association: cboudreau MA Senator Marc Pacheco: MPacheco Replies to previous requests for help were powerful in keeping H. 4409 alive. Please continue to speak out on this important issue. Your voice is formidable and a crucial part of this nearly 23-year struggle to grant students and animals protection. Thank you, for your shared committment to passing Dissection Choice EVERYWHERE. If you'd like more information about this bill, please contact the New England Anti-Vivisection Society, who is spearheading this campaign.
