Guest guest
Thanks to Davy Davidson for her good post on this issue on January 8. NOTE: Supervisors Tom Ammiano, Aaron Peskin and Gavin Newsom, good " animal people " all, generally, voted AGAINST the amendment at the most recent vote. It's critical to change their minds before the final vote on Monday, January 13. Calls/faxes/e-mails are needed. If you've already done so, do so again! SOME GOOD NEWS: Supervisor Matt Gonzalez, a member of the Green Party, yesterday was elected as Board President, by a very close vote. This was a big surprise to many (including Matt, I'd bet), and should help get the proposed amendment passed. As you probably know, the Greens have a pro-vegetarian, anti-fur, anti-animal research platform. This bodes well for the nonhuman animals in San Francisco. The presence of pro-animal people at the Monday vote would be helpful. More than 8,000 cards/letters have been received by the Clerk's office on this issue, more than half of them AGAINST, reportedly. Even the damned PRCA has been actively encouraging its pro-rodeo membership to send in its opposition--along with the usual suspects: cat and dog breeders, dog fighters, cock fighters, etc., and other animal abusers/users. Note , too, that Supervisors Leland Yee and Mark Leno are off the Board and now in Sacramento. The two new members of the Board, Fiona Ma and Bevan Dufty, really need to hear from us. Monday's Board meeting is at San Francisco City Hall, 2:00 p.m. Be there for the animals.
