BAVRT is NOT a drop-in dinner event. If you have problems emailing

me, please use http://veginfo.com/contact/general

As always, you come under your own liability for all events. Pass

the word to your friends. This is not an exclusive net-folks only

event. This is not an activist group or singles event. Note that

if you plan to attend this dinner, you can order only vegetarian

dishes, even if the restaurant serves other stuff.

If you have suggestions for future sites, please e-mail them to

. If you want to volunteer host a BAVRT dinner,

please let me know!!

#1) Vegetarian Fair!

http://www.vegfair.org/mainframe.html

As many of might already know, Vegfair is right around the corner.

Check it out! Their website says " Free Food, Free Parking,

Free Admission " - sounds like a great deal. It is on Feb 1, 2003,

from 9 am to 6 pm at Santa Clara Convention Center.

Those of you who wish to volunteer and help in this fair, please

see their website for details.

#2) This month's trek

Thanks to Gregor for stepping forward at a very short notice and

volunteering to host this month's BAVRT dinner. The restaurant

he selected is Massawa on Haight @ Ashbury (yes, right near that

historically famous intersection!)

The restaurant serves Eritriean food. Though veg and non-veg dishes

are served there, our host tells us that all their vegetarian dishes

are vegan ( restaurant's website http://massawa.citysearch.com/ )

Make sure to RSVP early. Start new year right - attend BAVRT! :-)

#3) Last month's trek

http://www.veginfo.com/bavrt/restaurantlist.html

Winnie hosted last month's dinner at Vanessa's restaurant in

Berkeley. It was a real stormy day with power outages in various

parts of our bay area and we had a fabulous turnout! 37 people

braved this weather and showed up, there were 11 cancellations

and 1 no-show. Most people were in high spirits and this

contributed to a wonderful dinner atmosphere.

All 37 of us were seated around a gigantic table and restaurant

folks started serving food even before 6 PM. Food kept coming

and coming(!) till we were all satiated with good food. Don't

recall being served so much food at any prix fixe dinner. There

was so much food left behind that most people took it back home.

The food was also very tasty. Across the board, most BAVRT

members rated the food and service very highly.

After this sumptuous dinner, we waddled over to Mondo Gelato

for a taste of their vegan ice creams. It is great that a

normal ice cream shop carries 20 or 30 flavors of vegan ice

cream. This BAVRT dinner proved to be a wonderful way to end

a rather crummy year (particularly for the many BAVRT members

who are looking for a technical job).

#4) New Year resolutions

Did you make a lot of new resolutions? Or like me, did you

just recycle old resolutions :-) My resolution of changing

veginfo.com website, made many times over the yester-years,

is still on my plate :-( May be it is time to do something

about it, after all.
