Guest guest
Dear Petra & Other East Bay Folks- East Bay Veg*n is a potluck/restaurant dinner/sailing/movie-going group that has sponsored monthly potlucks & other events in the East Bay for the last 20 years. Many of the attendees are long-time veggies (eg.-I'm over 35 years vegetarian, almost 20 years vegan, raw the last few years). Everyone is welcome to attend. Although not specifically a raw group, there is always a raw contingent there, and the organizer has recently,at my request agreed to make most events offically " raw-friendly " . To get on the announcement list,e-mail Howard Dyckoff howarddy2 who does the work to make things happen. The reason why I am replying to you instead of him is that he is one of a growing number of people who have been banned from . Unlike some of the other banned people who have simply gotten another e-mail under another name,Howard declines to engage in subterfuge. I have recently started posting notices of ebveg events to ,so that others can benefit from this great group. I will continue to do so,although with some trepidation- I hope I don't get banned too! Guest guest
Hi everyone, Regarding Jordan's statement that Howard has been banned from the list -- Jordan, can you please send us proof of this? We would be most interested in seeing it. We have no reason to ban Howard from the list as he was quite opposed to SFBAVeg and not interested in joining. Have you ever seen his public statements about SFBAVeg? They're all in the archives on veg-sf (the list that Howard runs). Yup, we do ban troublemakers from the SFBAVeg list. We have a public Charter, which we do enforce. We don't like people who use SFBAVeg for their own private agenda -- a good recent example is fakevegan2003's post; the primary intent seemed to be to bash Howard's behaviour towards him at the East Bay potluck. Jordan, we won't ban you for being Howard's friend. However, we do feel you've been unfair to us telling everyone on SFBAVeg that Howard's been banned when in fact he hasn't.... And, it sounds like you've only been getting one side of the story... but that's all in the past, so let's not relive it again. A bit of background... When Chris and I first started SFBAVeg, we invited everyone to post their events with us, even East Bay. Oddly, our post to veg-sf saying that is missing from the veg-sf archives, but you can see it referenced in Pete's post. http://www.waste.org/mail/?list=veg-sf & month=0111 & msg=2972 & sort=date That offer is still open.... And, anyone can join SFBAVeg -- membership is free, there's no approval process, just email SFBAVeg- and you're automatically a member. We do not screen memberships. I think SFBAVeg has been a wonderful resource to bring the veg community together. Although SFBAVeg is one of the larger local groups, Chris & I have never thought we had a monopoly on veggie groups. We are quite happy to see other veg/AR groups start up. Why, since SFBAVeg started, I think several other groups have started -- southbay veggies, freedom for animals, veggie singles, veg photographers (hope I haven't missed anyone).... We applaud everyone's veg / AR activities and would love to see the day when we have no need for veggie groups because the whole world is veg! Guest guest
Geez, I sure hope you don't mean you banned fakevegan2003 just for posting one message, which looked to me like an honest intent to inform, and on-topic. The post generated a somewhat out of proportion flurry of comment but seemed to me pretty straightforward, warranting at most a request to avoid personal criticism. --Bruce > Yup, we do ban troublemakers from the SFBAVeg list. Hi all, Bruce, thanks for the opportunity to clarify this..... fakevegan2003 is not banned from the list, but is an example of people " who use SFBAVeg for their own private agenda " . I agree with you that personal criticisms should be avoided. Cheers, Tammy SFBAVeg List Admin
