Vegan options at Indian restaurants??? East bay

Mickey,

When I lived in Berkeley, I liked a place called Breads of India,

which I believe is on the corner of Sacramento and Dwight.

In Indian food, the ingredient I am most concerned about is the ghee,

which traditionally is clarified butter. However, some Indian

restaurants use vegetable oil rather than genuine ghee, which makes

them vegan.

To be certain about the vegan-ness of the food in a restaurant, I try

to be careful of the way I ask my ingredient questions. If you

ask, " Does the ghee in your food have real butter in it rather than

vegetable oil? " , you might get a different answer from the following

phrasing of the question: " My diet restricts me from eating any dairy

products. Does your ghee have butter in it? "

Good wishes,
