Assemblyman Mark Leno is also introducing a rodeo bill.

He's a welcome addition to the Capitol Bldg.

ACR 18 recognizes Spay Day 2003, an annual event around the country when

there are many spay/neuter operations in one day. I brought the resolution

to Leno. This year I added a line about encouraging vets to cooperate with

shelters and rescue groups. Many vets charge way too much for spay/neuter

giving no break to shelters or rescue groups. Yet the animals cannot be

adopted unless they are first spayed/neutered. If they charge a big amount

the cost becomes prohibitive and adoptions are affected. This is happening

in more rural districts where there are fewer vets. Many will also not do

early spay/neuter.

ACR 18 must pass Assembly Rules Committee, then Assembly Floor, and then the

Senate Floor. Write your Assemblymember and State Senator to vote yes on ACR

18.

If you don't know who your state legislators are, you are welcome to call me

415/474-4020. You are also welcome to join our e-mail legislative alert list

and you will get weekly updates on all the animal bills in California. Just

send me your e-mail address and a " snail mail " address.
