Guest guest
Cancer fighting broccoli X-Mailer: Cyberonic WebMail X-URL: http://www.cyberonic.com From the Business section of Thursday's Chron: COMING SOON: CANCER-FIGHTING BROCCOLI Oxnard, Ventura County - Seminis Inc., the world's top fruit and vegetable seed producer, said it has received exclusive marketing rights for a type of broccoli that may help fight cancer. Terms were not disclosed. The broccoli, developed in Britain, has as much as 80 times more cancer-fighting potential than the regular vegetable, Seminis said. The Oxnard company, whose voting shares are majority owned by Savia SA of Mexico, hopes to sell the broccoli as both fresh food and nutritional supplement. Seminis said the plants have high levels of glucosinolates, which may fight cancer. Savia and San Francisco investment firm Fox Paine said last month that they plan to buy Seminis in a transaction they valued at the time at more than $650 million. [The question is: assuming this is a genetically modified veggie, (the article didn't say), is it good news because it will encourage people to eat more vegetables, associate veggies with good health and, hopefully, eat less meat? Or is it bad news because the veggie is most likely genetically modified and thus, an enormous potential threat to the environment?]
