Guest guest
hi all. over and over i have seen postings-or warnings-about how we should keep things ON TOPIC here on SFBAVEG. i think the same goes for the upcoming demonstration on the 16th. having signs that advocate veganism, will only give the media an opportunity to say that the demonstration " was not cohesive " , that there were multitudes of people, yes, but that there were also multitudes of causes. this will be their out, to take away from the importance of the gathering. they have done in the past, and given the opportunity, they will do it again. if stopping the war is on your agenda, then be a vegan too, but keep it out of the limelight at this demonstration. ie: STAY ON TOPIC! let's talk about being vegans here, and being against the war there! cy

Hi Cy and everyone, Cy, thanks for your concern for keeping us on track for veggie & AR discussions at SFBAVeg. I really appreciate that! As a local group for veggies & AR, we all have our one " common " interest of veggie/AR, and I absolutely agree (and send out reminders) that we should not be drawn into other topics, especially divisive ones like war, religion, or politics. This group and its mailing list is about building the local veg/AR community, not dividing us against each other. I think Polly's original post was clear that their intent was to leaflet the large crowd of people at the anti-war rally. It was saying that there is this opportunity to educate a large gathering of people (who may be sympathetic to AR/veg issues) about the " war on animals " . I think discussing effective tactics for the anti-war rally is not an appropriate veggie/AR topic (i.e. whether a veggie message dilutes the effectiveness of the anti-war rally) But leafletting any large group of folks about veggie/AR topics is great! I think more leafletting should happen at non-veg events, like dog shows, cat shows, places where attendees may have a common interest that could lead them to being veg*n. I used to have a table regularly on factory farming at Contra Costa Earth Day because a lot of people that came were not veg. So.... just wanted to chime in with how Chris & I (the List Admins) saw this. Cheers, Tammy SFBAVeg List Admin
