Guest guest Posted February 4, 2003 Report Share Posted February 4, 2003 Thought someone out there might be interested: Shelter Manager, House Rabbit Society Headquarters The Shelter Manager will be responsible for all animal care and customer service duties at the shelter (with the assistance of one to two part time assistants as well as volunteers), and will be responsible as well for managing the shelter as a whole, in conjunction with the Executive Director. Specific duties include: · With the assistance of the animal care technician(s), to oversee and participate in the daily care (including feeding, cleaning, health care and socialization) of all rabbits at the shelter, and to ensure that all care is attended to on weekends as well. · To oversee and participate in adoptions, including adoption forms & materials, scheduling, record-keeping and follow up · To oversee and participate in boarding, including scheduling, forms, and record keeping · With the assistance of the intake coordinator, to oversee and participate in all animal intake, including record-keeping, scheduling, etc. · To keep shelter clean, with the assistance of the animal care technician and volunteers, and to keep the shelter stocked and well organized, including rabbit areas, administrative areas, and public areas · To oversee and participate in all aspects of customer service, and to make sure that phone calls, mail, literature, etc., are handled on a daily basis · To work with Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator to make sure shelter is staffed 7 days per week and volunteers are happy, and to participate in training · To assist the Health Director with health exams and treatments · To supervise the animal care technician(s), working with them when necessary · To do weekly or bi-weekly bank deposits, database entry, some payroll, and to keep track of petty cash · To rapidly identify problems that need to be brought to the attention of the Health Director, and to take appropriate measures at all times to control and prevent the spread of disease · To shuttle rabbits, pick up supplies, and run other errands as needed, or must find volunteers to do such tasks · To participate when appropriate in special events and classes · To maintain healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities for the rabbits and to ensure that the HRS shelter/headquarters is presented to the public in the best way possible Physical Requirements: · Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances and to humanely restrain an animal when necessary · Allergic conditions, which would be aggravated when handling or working with animals, may be a disqualification Experience, Abilities And Qualities Required: · Great affection for and knowledge of rabbits, concern for their welfare and a commitment to the goals of House Rabbit Society · Experience in caring for and handling rabbits in a safe, effective and humane manner, especially aggressive and possibly untrained pets · Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a diverse staff, volunteers and public in a professional, pleasant, respectful, courteous and tactful manner at all times · Ability to drive own car on errands · Strong organizational, office management and computer skills required · Reliability and willingness to work hard are very critical Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director This is an exempt, salaried position. Hours are Monday-Friday (minimum 40 hours), plus one weekend day per month; other weekend days as appropriate. Salary is DOE.
