Guest guest
There was a post last month about the Cattlemen's Association's new website (launched in Dec. '02) called cool-2b-real.com. As you may recall, the site is an outrage and an offense to girls they are preying on (8 - 12 years of age). Here are some interesting links I found about the site: Sign a petition against Cool-2-Be-Real: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/x121984x/ Salon.com's scathing review: " Luring preteens with red meat. AWeb site produced for girls by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association solves self-esteem problems with heaps of ground round. " http://www.salon.com/tech/feature/2003/02/11/beef_teen_people/index.html?x Time's review: " More teenagers, particularly girls, are turning to vegetarianism. And that's making America's beef producers very nervous. " http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,412343,00.html Best regards, ~Caity -- Caity McCardell http://www.CaityandStefan.com
Guest guest
There was another article in SFGATE, and I'd love to know if anyone can get a hold of the writer's contact info. She wrote: " As PETA's director of vegan outreach, he [bruce Friedrich] goes as far as to recommend a vegan diet for adults and children: fruit, whole grains and vegetables, including legumes (beans, peas and lentils). That means no meat or fish and no dairy products, such as milk and cheese -- a recommendation that goes against federal food pyramid guidelines. " My problem with this is that 1) Of course the pyramid is a totally political concoction AND 2) he's saying exactly what the American Dietetic Association agrees is a healthy diet -- for children, pregnant women, etc. So, once again, inaccurate information goes out to the public. I'd love to encourage some letters to her to educate her on this. Any ideas? Any ideas? > > Colleen Hi all, Colleen, Is this the article that you're talking about? http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi? file=/news/archive/2003/02/19/financial0727EST0014.DTL (if the link doesn't work for you, just search on the " exact phrase " www.cool-2b-real.com and it will appear in the search results) Buried at the very bottom of the article is the author's email address: Martha Irvine can be reached at mirvine(at)ap.org AND... speaking of teens.... If you interact with teens, VIVA has a free veggie packet for teens! You can visit their website at http://www.vivausa.org/ or use this direct URL: http://www.vivausa.org/act/actorderform.htm lauren of VIVA will be speaking at this weekend's LibNow conference in one of the few presentations open to the general (non-student) public, on Saturday, in the early afternoon (details were previously posted to the list)... Maybe we'll see some of you there!? Cheers, Tammy
