Guest guest
Did anyone else notice the photo in Chronicle's Food Section Wednesday where there is a chef posing with a live chicken just above a chicken recipe? The caption reads: " Chef Johnny Alamilla and friend in The Chronicle's photo studio. " Friend?? That got to me. (to see it I think you can copy and paste this address http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object.cgi? object=/chronicle/pictures/2003/02/19/fd_chicken.jpg & paper=chronicle & f ile=FD141941.DTL & directory=/chronicle/archive/2003/02/19 & type=food) I wrote the following to Food writer Karola Saekel at kcraib : I must call into question a photo in your Food section from Wed., Feb 19. How can someone reasonably put a photo of a chef (Johnny Alamilla) with a live chicken and call that chicken the chef's friend directly above a recipe for a chicken dish? Perhaps you are unaware that cooking a chicken necessitates that it be killed, a decidedly unfriendly act. I don't expect the Chronicle's Food section to be vegetarian (though that would be nice), but I do expect meat eaters not to propagate any delusions about the reality of their food choices. Thank you. Nancy Whelan-Stevens
