Guest guest
Dear Htet- Don't feel guilty and don't leave the Chinese student group. Say to them that you will take your turn to sell the food, explain that you are a vegetarian, ask them to also sell some vegetarian food. If it seems helpfull, you can point out: that Chinese culture has a long history of vegetarianism among Buddhists; that there are many fine Chinese vegetarian restaurants, cookbooks, and chefs; that if they sell only meat-containing dishes, they are not adequately representing the full range of Chinese cuisine with their offerings; that the sale of the foods is not just an opportunity to raise money, but an opportunity to raise awareness of Chinese culture, including vegetarian aspects of the cuisine; that they may also use this as an opportunity to raise their own awareness of an aspect of Chinese culture;that modern western nutritinal research, studying China's population, has shown the superiority of a plant-based diet. Perhaps you can invite a chef from a veggie restaurant,or someone from a Buddhist group,to speak on vegetarianism. Don't alienate people and isolate yourself, use this occasion to spread your ideas. -Jordan.
