Guest guest
IMO champions are the best. Green Power is quite fragile compared to the champion and break easily.

I believe you can get purchase a gadget for the power conversion. Guest guest
I agree. Champions are a better choice. It just keeps working and getting and replacing parts for it is easy should you ever need them.

My brother-in-law had the more expensive Green Power. It does make a better juice but it broke several times within a month of purchase. He replaced it with the Champion and is much happier with it.

-OrionsDad
Guest guest
Hi, I am ready to buy my new Juicer. I am trying out a " raw " lifestyle and would really like to get the absolute best and most featured Juicer out there. I would like to get the most out of it. I know there are a lot of Juicers out there. Can anyone recommend (based on experience) a Juicer that can: 1> Fruit & Vegs 2> Butters (from nuts) - Have you tried it? 3> Wheat Grass and other leafy vegs 4> other uses Many thanks Yaron ===== _________ All the best... Guest guest
Hi Yaron, I have been a raw foodist (not 100%) for about 5 years. The best juicer to do all that would be the Green Star. When I bought mine, it was called the Green Life. It was about $100 cheaper than their higher end version, the Green Power, but did all the same things. It juices greens, wheatgrass, homogonizes to make nut pates, etc. I understand that the Green Power has since been re-engineered, so you might check to see if it does anything better than the Green Star these days. A good place to shop is www.discountjuicers.com. This site can also be accessed via www.rawfoods.com and going to the marketplace section. It has customer write-ups on the different juicers in the same way they do at Amazon.com. Another thing about this juicer is that because it has the twin gear mechanism, it presses out the juice slowly and the juice stays " alive " longer. I would also recommend a great beginning recipe book: the one by Chad Sarno available at www.rawchef.org. And if you are in the Bay Area, Elaina Love, who is one of the best raw food chefs around (along with Chad) is having a series of classes starting in March. She hasn't done that in a long time here in the Bay Area. You can get the schedule at her website at www.purejoylivingfoods.com. I would also suggest Dr. Gabriel Cousens' Rainbow Green Diet, a book coming out this spring. He does a lot of research at his Tree of Life rejuvenation center on how to optimze the diet so that 100% of the population can be 100% raw. Guest guest
Oren- The Green Life/Green Power is a hassle to use and a nightmare to clean. Very slow juicing, effortfull to push stuff in,rumbling vibrations travelled to the other end of the apartment and disturbed someone there, more froth than juice, have to stop repeatedly to empty the tiny juice pitcher, can't use a bigger one cause it won't fit under the machine, large greens jam up in the chute & can jam the gears, lots of teeny spaces that have to be scrubbed out with special brushes, juice & pulp get into spaces in the motor base itself but you can't put the base in water to clean it,yeesh! I sent the damn thing back, don't get one unless they let you return it. I got a Juiceman Elite(now the Pro). Fast, easy, very efficient(see independent consumer lab ratings in Michael Murray's Book of Juicing)easy to clean too;it's loud though. Frankly, though, any juicer is more trouble than using a good blender. I use my Champ blender much more frequently than the juicer; super-fast,way easy to clean. You can make carrot soup in it,instead of carrot juice. Even more frequently-used than that: Jupiter grain-crusher,used to make fresh muesli, yum! Forget the nut-butters & all the high-fat stuff, carbs give you more energy. I'll be talking about " Raw Grains- Ancient Health Food " at the Marin potluck in April. -Jordan. Guest guest
Hi Jordan, There are definately trade-offs to any product! How does the juiceman do for homogenizing? Or for greens and wheatgrass? Others are definately faster, but the faster something is juiced, the more it oxidizes. While it is true that the Green Power/Star/Life requires more effort to push carrots and beets down, it pulls greens in effortlessly. For my preferences, since greens are more alkalizing than carrots and beets, I chose to move from a fast juicer that was a wiz with hard vegetables to the Green Life. Plus, the quality of the juice from a twin gear machine is better and the juice stays alive longer. When I first got my green life, I could feel more power in the juices I was making from the first day. Another benefit to the twin gear machines is that they are more efficient in extracting juice, making the cost of juicing cheaper -- except in the case where you make carrot soup, where that would definately be more economical than carrot juice. I did try blending kale and collards in the vitamix, but I ended up throwing it out because I had a hard time stomaching the taste or making it taste good. It was better in my mind to juice it. Although if it works for you, more power to you! Paul Nissan always talks about drinking " blended salads. " I am just not there yet! So if you want Speed, perhaps the vitamix blender or juiceman would be good. If you want better quality juice, twin gear machines will be better. Guest guest
Hi Yaron, First of all, give yourself a round of applause for buying a juicer. I've been juicing since '97, and it's helped my energy level, digestion, skin tone, appetite, and on and on. Before I started juicing, my main concern was that juicing would be too troublesome and time-consuming for me to do regularly, so the main thing I looked for in a juicer was ease of use/ease of cleaning. I bought a Champion juicer, which I still use today. I agree with Susan that the twin gear juicers extract more juice, and slower speed is better, but I also know I simply wouldn't take the time to either a) clean the machine properly, or b) even bother using it at all if it takes too much time (which I realize is a very subjective thing). So I opted for the simpler Champion. If I had more time or patience, though, I'd go for the twin gear ... but I don't ... The beauty of the Champion is that it assembles/disassembles in seconds, takes literally about a minute to clean, and you can replace all the parts for about $10. They're made in a factory in Lodi, CA. I've used mine pretty hard for over six years -- green leafy juices (chard, kale, dandelion greens, plus carrots and ginger, etc.) two to three times a day -- and it's still going strong. You can get them online for under $200. I understand they have a new model with an even more heavy duty motor and stainless steel parts that's even better. Good luck, Chris
