Guest guest
Dear SFBAVeg friends, As many of you know, Chris and I created SFBAVeg in October 2001 to connect the local veg*n and AR community. We never imagined that SFBAVeg would become so popular and would exceed a few hundred members! As the number of members have grown, so have the number of posts -- look at the counts for 2002 vs 2003. Jan 2002: 182 posts Feb 2002: 165 posts Jan 2003: 292 posts Feb 2003: 272 posts Now that we have so many more members and so many more messages, it is ever more important for all of us to remember that this is a local community list for the Bay Area, and to respect that when submitting posts. Let's keep the value of SFBAVeg high, not decrease it with " noise " . " Noise " diminishes the effectiveness of this mailing list and we lose what makes our local, bay area list different from the gazillion of other mailing lists out there. It means we lose people who are dissuaded by too many posts.... With that in mind, PLEASE keep these following guidelines in mind when submitting posts to the list. 1) Topic must be veggie or AR related (I know, you would think this is obvious...) 2) Veggie or AR related post has Bay Area / local / CA relevance 3) Absolutely no politics, religion, pro/anti war discussions (this is a surefire way to divide our already small community). Please be very specific in your post to keep it veggie/AR related and NOT a disingenuous post about pro/anti-war, politics or religion. 4) This list is promoted as a community veggie/AR list -- NOT a news service. REPOSTS from other lists, sending news links or articles, or national activist alerts are not particularly encouraged -- this is the local veg/AR community list, not the Associated Press news service! If you DO see a news story that has a local angle that you feel is important, preface your post with WHY you feel it is of relevance to us, or if there is some point in the article you want to discuss or have a question on. For activist alerts -- Please do not rebroadcast activist alerts for national / international issues (see #2 above) and (sadly) they would soon overrun the list. If you are supporting a national campaign with local activity, that is great! Please share info and let folks know how they can get involved..... PLEASE, let's all work together to keep SFBAVeg as a valuable resource for the local veg*n & AR community. Thanks for your support of SFBAVeg! Guest guest
And to think I knew only a few veggies three years ago! I have a question about #4. I'm a journalist and often run across several interested veggie/AR related news items. I post them because it's difficult to keep up with the latest news. Isn't that the point of this list? To stay informed and share thoughts on issues, whether it's soy ice cream or news? For example, the Wall Street Journal had an article in yesterday's paper about McDonald's adding a nutrition table to its Web site. We need to stay informed about these issues! -Rose 4) This list is promoted as a community veggie/AR list -- NOT a news service.
