Guest guest
> (begin) Rose Aguilar [rose] And to think I knew only a few veggies three years ago! I have a question about #4. I'm a journalist and often run across several interested veggie/AR related news items. I post them because it's difficult to keep up with the latest news. Isn't that the point of this list? To stay informed and share thoughts on issues, whether it's soy ice cream or news? > (end) Being a dedicated *local* mailing list is what makes a unique resource for the community Supporting the *local* vegetarian and animal rights community Sharing information about *local* veg/AR events & local news with a veg/AR angle THAT is what SFBAVeg is all about! We saw a need for a mailing list to connect the local veg/AR community, so we designed and built SFBAVeg -- from two members to several hundred. From feedback we've received, we have successfully accomplished this. To continue to be successful, we need to keep SFBAVeg focused on its primary task -- connecting/supporting the local veg & AR community. We promote SFBAVeg as local group/mailing list supporting the local community, not a national/international news rebroadcasting service. Think of SFBAVeg as the " bay area " section in your local paper, without the ink rubbing off on your fingers..... If someone else sees a niche for an ar/veg news list for national/international news, we encourage them to build that resource -- please don't try to do it on SFBAVeg though, we're already pretty busy.... Guest guest
I am relatively new to the list and have learned a lot from it in a short time. I would just remark that creators have a special role to play, for which we all should be thankful--but institutions also need to grow and change to reflect the desires of the group as needs arise. My own view to this " debate " notwithstanding, I'd really like to hear from the members of the group. Maybe forwarding of messages and news items creates a major problem for some, and, if so, that might help us all appreciate the need to NOT forward any material. Or maybe its not so bad for us to be kept aware of news, especially news to which we may react, regardless of where our reactions will be; I mean, it is one planet after all. I am indifferent at this point, but wonder what other group members think. Maybe some of you already know of such a list some might join. So, I guess I'm asking to hear from group members. The creators may correctly state the original rules. But these days rules are written in electrons, not stone--so if rules stand in the way of what will now be helpful for members of the group, the rules can be changed, in a process of respect and appreciation. But some dialogue to discern whether that is necessary would seem helpful at this point. Guest guest
I've received quite a few responses from members who'd like me to add them to my News list. Let me know if you'd like me to add you. -Rose At 10:14 PM 3/7/03 -0800, you wrote: > > (begin) >Rose Aguilar [rose] > >And to think I knew only a few veggies three years ago! > >I have a question about #4.
