Hi All,

Since I seem to have opened up a new topic, just a couple of words on

it (It's not AR related, but I figure it's PR (plants right)

related ;-)

Science has shown that when certain trees are overgrazed, they begin

releasing chemicals that are toxic to the animals, to the point of

actually killing then if the grazing continues. Self defese and

survival mechanism obviously... Yet what is more interesting, is that

even trees of the same species that were more than 50 miles away, and

NOT being grazed, were releasing the same chemical, namely there were

chemical signals between the trees saying " beware " . Feelings? I have

no idea how to define those in the absence of a brain. Self

preservation instict? Certainly. Obviously the trees were feeling

some some of plant-type " pain " , enough to trigger this mechanism.

(Note, animals in the wild always migrate, and so avoid over-grazing

one spot, allowing regeneration).

Note also though that fruits for instance are MEANT to be eaten. It

is an evolutionary trick for self propagation, the animals are

supposed to carry the fruit away, eat it elsewhere, and let the seeds

fall on ready ground. Eating leaves is also very natural, it promotes

growth, as long as not done in excess. Most vegetables are human

creations (primitive genetic engineering obtain through

cross " breeding " ), and so a carrot, potato, lettuce, broccoli, and

whatever else we eat today did not evolve to self preserve probably,

and if we do not eat them, they simply rot.

no one has ever measured (that I know of), long distance

communication between celeries.

I think vegetables and trees are in different categories also as far

as " feelings " go, and since we don't eat the tree but the fruit, we

probably have little to worry about in terms of bad karma... ;-)

Orangely yours,

Tal
