Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just wanted to echo Tammy's request that when you're responding to a previous post, please delete the quote of the older post (except what you need for your message to make sense, of course.) The last two days (I get the digest,) I've had to scroll down for hours because messages contained several older messages. Sometimes people respond to particular sections after the appropriate part of the old section. It gets kind of hard on the eyes to find them if there is miles of old text. Thanks a lot in advance! I leave you all to finish my Black China Mocha cupcake (heaven, oh heaven of vegan baked goods) that I bought at Rainbow Grocery in SF. Thank goodness I live in San Rafael or I'd be eating at least one every day. Now that I think of it, I have a comment/activism point about Rainbow. First, let me take a moment to extol the virtues of Rainbow Cooperative Grocery. Just having moved here after years of living in NYC, supposedly the best city in the world, I never shopped at such a great store as Rainbow. Fresh produce, huge selection of everything, lots of bulk goods, and it's vegetarian! So they have more vegan products than any store I've ever been to. They're much better run than Whole Foods, and I prefer to support the workers rather than the Gaiam corporation, which has been cited for quite a few worker rights violations. Now, for the criticism....I wanted to make oven-baked " freedom " fries (note the sarcasm here) and needed a pastry brush to get the olive oil evenly on the potatoes without wasting paper towels. I went to whole foods and bought a great brush. Luckily, as I was about to take it off the packaging card, I read the back. 100% Boar Bristles. So, I wasted some paper towels that night. I returned the brush and thought, " I'll go to Rainbow, I'm sure they won't have boar bristles there! " I was wrong. Although they had two vegetarian types, one plastic, one plant, they also had two with boar bristles. I don't know how the boar bristle industry works, but I know they don't go peacefully into the forest and ask the boars to trade them some of their bristles for some tasty roots. Obviously it is not right for a store that is supposed to be vegetarian to sell these. I know, they sell vitamins in Gelatin capsules too, but since many of the vitamins are not available in vegetarian capsules yet, I'll let that go for now. However, this seems a really easy issue, since there are pastry brushes without boar bristles. So, if any of you shop at Rainbow, please take a moment to fill out a suggestion card asking them to stop selling the boar brushes. Cheers!
