Guest guest
See, now the thing is, lots of companies (like the people that make marshmallows) say they have a vegetarian gelatin now, made from plant material. I wodner if any have commentary on this? They say they haven't used meat based gelatin for several years. I am still not eating it, just to be safe, but I wonder what the group says about this. By the way, lots of dairy substitutes also have gelatin. IMO sour cream for example. That came as a shock to me. And of course you also have to avoid all pastries and snack cakes. full of lard. Also, most refried beans and tortillas. Mexican food is a giant pitfall, really. Oh, and shampoo and soap sometimes use gelatin. Gotta be careful about them too. What do you think? Guest guest
How about looking for an organic, eco-friendly alternative at your local health food store, restaurant, etc and supporting a company who is conscientious about these issues instead of looking for something that is likely, at best, accidentally vegan? When I first went vegan because I wanted a healthier diet, I noticed that the kinds of foods I couldn't, er won't eat are also the ones I shouldn't be eating in the first place. Now I'll admit that I am giving into my sweet tooth a little more often than I used to, but I try to support the companies who support my choices rather than the big name brands who, if an animal ingredient proved tastier, cheaper, more efficient, etc, probably wouldn't think twice about including it. Food for thought.
