In Buddhist teachings, humans, animals(includes insects),and various other folks

invisible to most of us are considered " sentient beings " . Sentient means having

a mind. Plants are not considered sentient. There are 6 " realms " or modes of

existence that sentient beings may take rebirth in,including pleasure gods,

jealous gods, humans, animals, hungry ghosts, and hell-beings. No plant realm; you

can't get reborn as a plant.

Killing animals or humans,being a butcher,a dealer in skins & meat & etc,a

soldier,an arms dealer, etc is all considered to create exceedingly bad karma. No

mention is ever made of negative karma coonected with killing or eating

plants, unless of course it involves stealing, accidently killing insects or small

critters,etc.
