Guest guest
Hi! Perhaps you've experienced this... I pull up next to a car and notice a dog inside, usually barking at me, sometimes just sitting listlessly. I do a quick check to see its condition - usually a cracked window, parked in the sun. I think " I ought to write the driver a letter. " But I don't have a pen, I'm in a rush, my notepad is nowhere to be found. Argh. Since the weather has been windy but really sunny (leaving people to think that it's pretty cool, but it's *very* hot inside cars), I thought of this preparation: I'm going to carry a print-out with me to place on a car's windshield. I don't have to write anything out - just pull it out of my glovebox - it's easy to do. I'd like your feedback - I'm happy to make changes to it. Please feel free to print it for yourself - I'm posting it to share! http://www.caityandstefan.com/dog_letter.pdf (PS - One time I had a guy paged in Gold's Gym because his dog was in a hot car. Boy, was he pissed off! He must have been in the middle of a workout and thought his car was on fire when he heard the announcement. He didn't even open the car windows after I told him my concern. Someone I know left their dog in a car and it died a horrible death - HORRIBLE.) Peace on earth, please... ~Caity -- Caity McCardell http://www.CaityandStefan.com
Guest guest
The Animal Protection Institute used to distribute 3 and 1/2 by 6 inch cards that said " Your Dog May Be Dying " on one side. On the other side was information on the dangers of leaving dogs in hot cars and instructions on how to save a dog overcome by heat exhaustion. I carry some of them in my briefcase whenever I go out. They might still be available from the API. The phone numbers for API on the cards are (916) 731-5521 or (800) 348-pets. If you believe that a dog in a car is in real danger, call animal control immediately. They can break into the car to save the dog's life. Guest guest
Interesting... I once was in Gold's and got paged because my dogs where in the car. I went out, sat in the car and it wasn't hot. I left the dogs there and the person who paged me was pissed. If you do put notes on peoples cars, please make sure they are polite. Ideally you should acknowledge that the dog might be fine, but you just want to be on the safe side. --- Caity McCardell <caity wrote: > (PS - One time I had a guy paged in Gold's Gym > because his dog was in a > hot car. Guest guest
I agree that it should be polite and embarass the car owner as little as possible. the person may have honestly thought it was okay, but more importantly, I think that some people if they are embarassed by having their behavoir towards their dog or child or whatever, will take it out on the dog or child. this is something that I'm always afraid of: that if I point out to the possible animal mistreater that he/she is mistreating the animal, he/she will be angry and take it out on the animal (blaming the animal for " getting him/her in trouble " ). Guest guest
PETA has a great flyer that you can print out at http://www.peta.org/pdfs/Lhotundercollar.pdf I carry several copies of it in my car just in case I see a dog unattended in a car.
