Guest guest
As active and compassionate people, we have the opportunity to save millions of animals -- but instead the hunters and the factory " farmers " are winning this one. By now, I imagine most everyone has heard that it is vital to show up in Sacramento on April 8th in support of 3 pro-animal CA assembly bills and 1 pro-animal CA senate bill (see descriptions below). Now is the time to act! I've heard that the state senators and assemblymembers are getting flooded with calls from hunters and others who are opposed to these bills, which means we don't lose -- the animals lose. We need to call and/or email everyone we know in California and ask them to call their Assemblymembers and Senators and urge them to support all of these bills. You can find the info here: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html I've included a letter below that I wrote -- you may use it as a guide, but personal/original letters are best and most influential. Please call today and ask people all around you to call as well. We don't have time to send letters, so calling or faxing is optimal. We really can make a difference for so many animals. Dear Assemblymember <Name>, On April 8th, you will have a number of opportunities to support legislation that seeks to protect innocent lives - the innocent lives of animals that are being shot, being hunted and killed, and made to live in total confinement without the ability to turn around or lie down comfortably. I am writing to you about three Assembly bills that I urge you to support: A.B. 342, the Hounding Bill, will stop trophy hunters from using packs of radio-collared hounds to chase and kill black bears and bobcats. There are more bears killed by hound hunters in California than in any other state in the country. A.B. 1190, the Dove Hunting Bill, will prohibit dove hunting. Millions of doves are killed each year in California and statistics show that more than 20% of doves shot by hunters are wounded and not retrieved. A.B. 732, the Veal Crate and Gestation Crate Bill, will prohibit confining or tethering a pig during pregnancy so that she is unable to turn around freely, or a calf so that he is unable to turn around freely, lie down with his legs and neck outstretched, and free to groom himself. If each bill becomes law, we will be saving millions of lives and saying " no " to cruel practices that are both abusive and unnecessary. Please support all three of these bills, during this difficult time when we should be reducing violent and cruel practices - not condoning them. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to learning your response.
