country.

2. Celebrate a Dairy-Free Earth Day

Viva! (with the help of Soy Delicious) is sponsoring 13 events in the US to

focus on the effects that dairy has on our environment. These events are

incredibly popular and positive! Thanks to all of the groups who are

participating:

Animal Activists of Alachua (Gainesville, FL); Animal Rights Club Lincoln

High School (San Jose); Alabama Animal Rights Fellowship (Tuscaloosa, AL);

PAW (Boulder, CO); SeTA (Portland); Animal Outreach of Kansas (Lawrence,

KS); Animal Protection of New Mexico (Albuquerque,NM); Fort Worth

Vegetarian Society (Fort Worth, TX); In Solidarity with Animals (Houston,

TX); United Animal Rights Coalition (Salt Lake City, UT); student activists

at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Pugent Sound, and activists

in Boston.

This Earth Day don't forget to remind people of the pollution problems

associated with dairy farms or the suffering of the cows and their babies

due to an industry that treats them like machines. Click here for fully

referenced information on these issues:

http://www.vivausa.org/Campaigns/Dairy/dairy-media.htm

Give people a special treat by introducing them to vegan ice cream by Soy

Delicious - kinder on the animals and the planet!

If you or your organization have not done one of these events with us before

and would like to join in our events in July, please let us know!

3. California Residents - Please CALL THIS WEEK!

The hearing for SB233 is on Tuesday, April 22nd. This bill would remove

kangaroos, crocodiles and alligators from current California law. This bill

has not received much attention and we really need the activist community to

speak out for these animals.

For more on how kangaroos are killed in the wild, please see:

http://www.vivausa.org/Campaigns/Kangaroo/adidas.htm

and watch the video at

www.savethekangaroo.com

Please see http://www.vivausa.org/urgentaction.htm#akang for contact

information for the members of the Senate Natural Resources Committee, who

include, Senators: Sheila Kuehl (Chair); Thomas " Rico " Oller; Dede Alpert;

Debra Bowen; Jeff Denham; Dennis Hollingsworth (sponsor of the bill);

Deborah Ortiz: Byron Sher and Tom Torlakson.

If your State Senator is listed, PLEASE CALL THEM and ask for them to OPPOSE

SB233. It is critical that they hear from many of their constituents.

If you can attend the meeting in Sacramento on Tuesday, April 22 - please

let us know! (530/759-8482 or info).
