Guest guest
Hey Everyone, There is a really great pizza place in the Upper Haight called Panhandle Pizza. It's located on Hayes Street near Cole. They offer soy cheese as an option but until now it contained Casine and was therefore not vegan. However, I spoke with the owner who is a really nice guy and he agreed to use vegan soy cheese in the future from the " FOLLOW YOUR HEART " Company. Their pizza is especially yummy. They use a cornmeal curst and puts lots of veggies on their veggie pizza including broccoli! Please give them a try. I have no financial interest in this company what so ever. Guest guest
After Warren's post, we were keen to check this place out. There's a few vegetarian flavors on the menu. We ordered the one called " Vegetarian " and specified vegan soy cheeze... It was loaded with vegetables, great flavor and simply delicious. If you're looking for a great pizza, we echo Warren's recommendation.. Check 'em out: http://www.sfpizza.com/ Thank you Warren for getting the owner to carry vegan cheeze AND for telling us all about it. Can't wait for another opportunity to try it :-) Did anyone else try this after Warren's post? If so, would be curious to know as when we ordered, they weren't sure if they had any vegan cheeze left as they'd run out and had to get more! Cheers, Tammy
Guest guest
I Drove from Noe Valley all the way to " panhandle pizza " ! It was worth it. I would recommend adding crushed peppers, oregano, and garlic salt since the " soy cheese " is a little tasteless, but the Pizza was overall delicious. We should have a Vegan Pizza Party at this place Yaron --- Tammy <govegan wrote: After Warren's post, we were keen to check this place out. There's a few vegetarian flavors on the menu. Guest guest
Why are we so stuck on animal products that we have to eat allegories? Can we learn to live without cheese or it's imitations? Can we eat at an Asian restaurant without fake meats? I've had really good cheese-less pizza (it starts with a great crust). To me, that's a real test of a pizza-maker. I'm allergic to soy, but I know vegans (chefs and otherwise) who feel tofu & other soy products are overdone and overrated. They are hi-fat, difficult to break down and fairly (entirely?) unnecessary in a vegan diet. I don't like having to tell Golden Lotus to serve me only vegetables. Everything on their menu comes with at least 6 different meat allegories, even the items listed as vegetables. It would really be educating the public, restaurants and others, to show how we can live not only without meat, but without meat & cheese imitations. It's as if we can't wean ourselves off of meat and cheese. (Don't get me wrong, I eat seitan and soy free cheese imitations as a treat.... not as a steady diet and not even every time I eat out) As vegans, we should lead the way ..... really showing the meat and dairy industry that we can live without them, their products, and their imitations. Anyone else feel this way? Guess I've been reading so much about how great the vegan pizza-with-fake-cheese is at Panhandle , I finally had to say something. I know I'm sticking my neck out on this. just one point of view among many- Marcy - " Yaron Oren-Pines " <yopines " Tammy " <govegan; " Bay Area Veg " Monday, May 05, 2003 12:18 AM RE: [sFBAVeg]Great pizza in SF with Vegan cheese!! > I Drove from Noe Valley all the way to " panhandle > pizza " ! Guest guest
Great points Marcy. I'm with you... why go through the hassle of soy cheese and all the fake-meats out there. Has anyone bothered to read the ingredients to that stuff? Not only is it high in fat, it's so processed and removed from the food chain I have a hard time figuring out what the raw parts of it might have been. okay, they aren't as processed as your average white bread and hotdog, however it isn't a pure as good bean burrito (hold the cheese), or a simple no-cheese pizza, or a veggie grill sandwich. As for Asian food, I'd love to find a place that doesn't stick soy " ham " in everything on the menu. Soy or not, why bother. So, I'm with you Marcy, we might as well rock the boat a little. Oh, not that I'm perfect... notice all my favorite dishes are hot. Haven't moved over to raw yet. - chuck On Monday, May 5, 2003, at 03:21 PM, Marcy Greenhut wrote: > Why are we so stuck on animal products that we have to eat allegories? > Can > we learn to live without cheese or it's imitations? Guest guest
Marcy, Some of us are Vegan due to health reasons. I believe in " choices " . If you don't want to eat Meat/Cheese alternatives... then don't. As it is, the meat and Cheese alternatives taste good and some of us choose to eat them! Guest guest
Yaron- You state the obvious. I guess taste is why many people still eat animal products..... And because they choose to! (No one is trying to stop you from your choices. It's just another opionion, another viewpoint being expressed. Hopefully we're all allowed. But I was challenging the predominant viewpoint being expressed, and I realized that.)
