Hi all,

We are so happy to be part of such a wonderful local veg community with so

many active individuals and organizations, and to have met so many great new

friends through the SFBAVeg community. That is one of the main reasons why

we started the group.

We realized about 6 months ago that " SFBAVeg " had become more than an just a

mailing list, as we showed up to events and heard people refer to themselves

as part of the " group " . I'm sure many of you saw the shortened name on our

banner at recents events, but let us formally introduce... " Bay Area

Vegetarians " !

Here is the official description:

Bay Area Vegetarians (BAV) is a bay area wide group for vegans, vegetarians,

veg*n-inclined and interested people to find community & support with

like-minded folks. Our goal is to support and encourage the local veg*n

community through our online discussion forum and mailing lists ( " SFBAVeg " ,

" SFBAVeg-Events " ), and planned monthly events. In the community spirit, all

of our events are organized by volunteers, and membership is free.

Why, just this year we have had 5 Vegan Food Parties (our 6th one will be

today, Saturday), letter writing events, several organized lunch/dinner

get-togethers, sponsored educational/outreach events at VegFair and We the

Planet, raised a few hundred bucks for Dr. Michael Greger's national vegan

tour, got hundreds of letters for pro-veg/pro-animal issues...

What we can accomplish is limited only by you! As an all volunteer

organization, the group is strongly influenced by what activities our

volunteers & members choose to host.

In the coming months, we've got (so far) several food events, including

lunch & dinner outings, more vegan food parties & 3 vegan camping trips.

If you're interested in meeting more local veggie folks, one of the best

ways to do that is to attend or host an event. From personal experience, I

can tell you that you are greatly appreciated by everyone attending and it

is one of the best ways to meet new and old friends.

So, tell your veggie friends and wannabe veggie friends about Bay Area

Vegetarians. When membership is free, who can afford to miss out on such a

warm and wonderful community. Hey, let's see if we can reach 1000 members

by our 2 year anniversary in October 2003!

Thanks for your support of Bay Area Vegetarians! And do tell a friend....

Cheers,

Tammy & Chris
