Hello all,

I am planning three Around-the-World vegetarian cooking classes as a

fundraiser for my church, the First Unitarian Universalist Society of San

Fran. The church has been warmly welcomed other vegetarian activities I've

planned this year, and I wanted to do this one to benefit it. These are open

to anyone interested. All dishes are vegan, I beleive.

Thanks much,

Mary Margaret

Upcoming Fundraiser:

Around-the-World Vegetarian Cooking Classes

Come sample delectable food from around the world during three upcoming

cooking classes! All money raised benefits First Unitarian Universalist.

Church members and a guest share Middle Eastern, Eastern European and West

African specialties, which they learned while growing up in those

traditions.

Each two-hour class, which includes a meal, costs $20. Sign up for all three

and pay just $50. Classes will be held at the church at 1187 Franklin Street

in San Francisco.

To register, please contact Intern Minister Mary Margaret Earl,

- The Hungarian Veggie: From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday June 7, Maria Solis

shares Hungarian delights. Maria was born in Budapest to a Viennese mother

and Hungarian father, and enjoys sharing her “tasty” heritage. She will

teach us how to make cucumber salad, mushroom paprikash with potatoes, and

for dessert we’ll savor palacsinta – Hungarian crepes.

- The West African Veggie: From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday June 14, Roxana

Chowdhury will teach us how to cook rich West African flavors. Roxana was

born and raised in the tropical country of Sierra Leone in West Africa. She

will share happy childhood memories that include tasting groundnut stew – a

spicy peanut sauce over rice - sauteed sweet plantains and more.

- The Arabic Veggie: From 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday July 8 Joe Akzam shares

mouthwatering Arabic foods. Joe, whose parents came from Damascus Syria, was

born in Detroit and grew up helping his mother cook. He’ll show us how to

make stuffed grape leaves, baked eggplant and, for dessert, a sweet and

yummy dish called Kanafer.
