Guest guest
Contents #1) This month's trek #2) Last month's trek #3) Going forward #4) Miscellaneous & non-BAVRT stuff --- May 31, 2003 (Last Saturday of every month) Time: 6:00 p.m. Host: Michael Site: Home of caterer, Genet Kefetew 145 Woodside Dr. San Anselmo, CA 94960 Type: All you can eat, vegan Ethiopian buffet Cost: $25 per person (includes tax and tip). This is not an exclusive net-folks only event. This is not an activist group or singles event. Note that if you plan to attend this dinner, you can order only vegetarian dishes, even if the restaurant serves other stuff. If you have suggestions for future sites, please e-mail them to . If you want to volunteer host a BAVRT dinner, please let me know!! ===================================================================== #1) This month's trek Michael came up with a highly innovative way to host this month's BAVRT dinner. It is going to be in the lovely house of Ethiopian caterer, Genet Kefetew. Apparently she has even decorated her house in Ethiopian motif. Michael says that she " makes the best vegetarian Ethiopian food. " He has ample ammunition to make this broad claim. He mentions that he has eaten in just about all of the nine or ten Ethiopian restaurants in SF. What Michael has arranged is a VEGAN, BUFFET-STYLE, CREATIVE ETHIOPIAN DINNER. The cost is $25 per person (total cost). Be sure to RSVP early to enjoy this unique BAVRT outing in the lovely Marin county. --- #2) Last month's trek Lori organized and hosted a fabulous BAVRT dinner at Memo's in Concord. This was a gala event and we were given royal treatment by the restaurant folks. The restaurant even made a special vegan chocolate cake with frosting and raspberry filling for our group. All this for only $14 per person. Lori played a big part in making this such a hugely successful dinner. All told, 36 people attended this dinner and there were a few cancellations. Almost all folks who attended gave very high marks, most of them 10, for the food and service. Many BAVRT members plan to visit this vegan friendly Mexican restaurant again. --- #3) Going forward As you may have guessed, I did not get to attend last month's dinner because I am in Monterey now. Some of you regulars know that I do not attend all the dinners anyway. Having wonderful hosts pitch in helps a lot in continuing BAVRT. So current plan is to continue as usual and see how things unfold. We do need hosts for next couple of months (SF, Peninsula and Silicon Valley). Please email me or call me immediately, if you are interested in hosting a dinner. --- #4) Miscellaneous & non-BAVRT stuff I moved to Monterey for a short contract. Feel free to give me a call, if you come to Monterey or live close by (like Gilroy, Watsonville, Santa Cruz etc). If you know of vegan friendly restaurants, places or local events (or would like to start local events!) around here (within 50 miles), let me know! VegInfo website is currently down. I was hosting it off my own server off of my DSL line. Since that website used server side Java (Servlets), it is not too easy to find a cheap and good hosting provider. Email is now up, as it is hosted by a provider. Formerly I ran my own email server also and used sophisticated spam filters. My current provider does not have such a set up. So I get around 100 spams for every valid email. The chance of a real email getting lost in this deluge of spam is very high. If you send me an email and I do not respond in a few days, please resend it or just call me on the phone! ===================================================================== Das Devaraj email - -- Cell phone (408) 839-5921 --- Are you on BAVRT (Bay Area Vegetarian Restaurant Trek) mailing list?
