In response to Polly's post, today Layna Berman was describing

Atkins's last book -- I don't recall the title -- as a premium during

KPFA's current spring fundraising.

According to Layna Berman, Atkins's last book includes a section on

following the Atkins diet if you are a vegetarian, i.e., don't eat

meat. Apparently, beans figure prominently in the meatless Atkins

Diet.

I think LB should be applauded for highlighting the veg option of the

Atkins Diet, which is usually associated with heavy meat consumption.

Her program also often highlights the horrors of GMO farming and

agribusiness, which I would consider to be important veg issues.

Other programs on KPFA (Morning Show, Food & Farming) have interviewed

Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation, and regularly criticize

health and environmentally destructive practices of the

pesticide-heavy food-industrial complex; also important veg issues.

By all means, I agree that listeners should voice their opinions about

KPFA programs, but keep in mind that KPFA also broadcasts arguably

more veg-friendly news and information than any station in Northern

California, which deserves our praise and support, especially now that

they are in fundraising mode.

On a personal note, I prefer Gary Null's radio program on WBAI, the

25-plus-year running Natural Living (Gary Null recommends a vegan

diet), which I considered to be much more broadly informative and

hard-hitting, but I doubt KPFA is going to carry it in addition to the

three health-related shows already aired.
