Guest guest
While it would be wonderful to have the host of every veg or animal rights debate go vegan at the end of it, I wouldn't go so far to say that we have failed if that's not the case. In fact, I think that the amount of positive, animal concerned & vegetarian callers proved the opposite - our movement is gaining momentum. Even after hearing a very compelling argument for vegetarianism, imagine how hard it must be for your average meat eater to admit that their dietary habits had been wrong & misguided their entire lives. While most people aren't quick to change their lifelong habits, hearing compelling arguments like Paul's does have an impact. I bet that if you asked many of the listeners if after hearing the show they would go veg, they would say no. And yet, this does not mean that hearing the facts presented in it had no impact on them. Even a small reduction in the amount of meat they eat saves lives & resources. People need as many exposures as they can get to vegetarianism, and in as many forms as we can provide. We need to expose people to facts about the industries, to happy, successful vegetarians, and to delicious veg options. It's difficult to convince people to make lifestyle changes even when compelling facts are on your side. Difficult, but not impossible. Maybe this means that we just need to take advantage of every opportunity to expose people to a more compassionate lifestyle until it becomes a mainstream, widely accepted concept. I think one of the most effective ways to do this that I've been involved with is our Vegan Video Brigade (shameless plug, I know). Every time we show Meat Your Meet & hand out Why Vegans to unsuspecting passersby, we *always* get positive results.
