This Sunday, PETA's Vegan Campaign Coordinator,

Joe Haptas, will be hosting a discussion group

about PETA's KFC and other campaigns.

Please join us:

Sunday, June 15

Time: 6:30 PM

Place: Golden Era Vegetarian Restaurant

572 O'Farrell Street @ Leavenworth

Come and hear about PETA's campaign against fast-

food behemoth KFC and get the scoop on the

campaign's latest developments, including

negotiations with KFC, worldwide demonstrations,

meetings with spokesman Jason Alexander and

KFC's president, concessions made by KFC,

promises broken, and why everyone that cares for

decent treatment of animals should help turn the

heat up on this campaign that affects the lives

of billions on animals. Check out

http://www.kfccruelty.com for more information,

or contact Joe Haptas at (757) 622-7382 x1470 or

joeh.

Among the improvements that PETA wants KFC to

implement are the following: replace crude and

ineffective electric stunning and throat-

slitting with more humane gas killing; phase out

the forced rapid growth of chickens, which

causes metabolic disorders and lameness;

increase the space allotted per bird; add

minimal enhancements, such as sheltered areas

and perches; and implement automated chicken-

catching, a process that reduces the high

incidence of bruising, broken bones, and stress

associated with catching the birds by hand.

Please call Laura Keuling at PETA at 757-622-

7382, extension 1582, or email her at

LauraK if you can attend. Hope to see

you there!
