Here's the text of my craigslist ad:

$700 - Want roommate for 3 level 1300sf live/work loft on 9th St., Berkeley

Tue May 18th 01:12

I have leased a live/work loft in the Brickside Lofts for June 1st and am

looking for a compatible roommate to share it with me. It's quite an amazing

space. It has a huge open space on the first floor, double doors to the

street, a

28' brick outside wall with large window at the top for good light, a modern

kitchen area, plus a separate laundry and half bath area. Second floor has an

open mezzanine/now an office which overlooks the downstairs, an enclosed

bedroom which I plan to occupy myself, and a full bath. The third level is

smaller

and is a private space which also opens to the spaces below and has a

skylight.

This would not be just a room rental, but a full space sharing arrangement.

It's a non-smoking building, a good neighborhood, and the #9 and #19 buses

stop

2 short blocks away on 7th St. The #9 goes to Ashby BART.

My stats: I am a small business owner but run my business elsewhere out of a

storefront, a picture framing shop in Berkeley. I am also female, 52, a

half-my-life vegetarian, with a whacky sense of humor (love burning man) and

eclectic tastes in art, movies and music, have done lots of life transforming

work,

(vision quest, therapy, workshops) and have 2 small golden retrievers. It's

important that you love dogs, or this would never work, because they will

love

you and not only greet you vociferously, but follow you around hoping to

catch a

head scratch or any other form of attention. They would not have access to

your private space on the third floor, but will have the run of the rest of

the

place.

Your age, gender and sexual orientation are unimportant to me, but a sense of

humor, compassion, integrity, willingness and ability to communicate are all

very important to me, as well as having a household with shared

responsibilities and a commitment to reduce, reuse, recycle. My politics are

to the left, and alhough I consider myself tolerant, I'd be unhappy living

with a

prolife/homophobic/Bush fan. I would love it if you were a fellow artist and

vegetarian,

but it's the total sum of who you are that will tell me if we will be

compatible or not. I want a fun and drama free space as much as possible. I

envision

possible dinner parties, and group movie watching with friends as likely

activities and art projects in process as a way of life. The extended laundry

room

even looks like it might make a great darkroom space.

Let me know if this sounds like an interesting living situation for you. I

will be moving in on the 7th, will have keys on the first, and could probably

arrange to get you in to see the loft before then, but I would want to talk

and

meet first.

Please feel free to pass this on to others who may fit the bill.

Thanks,
