Guest guest
I've recently been criticized on some veggie and AR related listserves for urging folks with any information about violent animal rights related crimes to assist authorities before the cancer of violence destroys our movement. I've been urged to repudiate that position. While I continue to believe that violent confrontation is unnecessary, immoral and ineffective in the fight for animal rights, I also believe, as an attorney who has worked in criminal defense both as a public defender and in private practice, that everyone charged with a crime has a right to the presumption of innocense, due process of law and the effective assistance of legal counsel. Therefore, I'd like to make the following offer to Daniel Andreas San Diego, who is accused of planting a pipe bomb on Aug. 28 at Chiron and another on Sept. 26 at Shaklee Corp.: If you are willing to contact me to arrange to turn yourself in to authorities within the next 30 days, I'm willing to volunteer to represent you without fee, although, hopefully, with the assistance of other pro-bono lawyers, since yours will be a complex case. If you wish to take me up on this offer, do not reply by e-mail. All such replies will be ingored and treated as spam. You can get my contact information from the State Bar of California in San Francisco. (Ask about bar member number 99488.) Then, contact me at my San Francisco office and be prepared to provide several pieces of personal information that I can confirm with your family to prove your identity. We can take it from there.
