Guest guest
This post was on the Fatfree_Vegan group at Groups.com today. We need letters to the publisher to tell them they did not do the right thing, to change her intentionally healthy vegan recipe by adding butter and eggs. Rodale publishers say their mission is " to enable and inspire people to improve their lives and the world around them, Rodale has been the leading publisher of information on healthy, active lifestyles for more than 60 years. " They are acting against their stated purpose. You can contact Rodale at reader_service or customer_service. Original post: outonalimb [outonalimb] Friday, March 11, 2005 9:11 AM Fatfree_Vegan (AT) (DOT) Com NEED ADVICE RODALE PUBLISHED MY VEGAN RECIPE with my name IN COOKBOOK BUT ADDED EGGS/Butter without my permission !!!!!!!! I am SO UPSET ! Several months ago I submitted 2 recipes to Rodale during a healthy recipe cookbook contest . I am a staunch ethical vegan and have many original recipes posted on various sites on the web .. A few years ago I won a Vegetarian times /Hains cooking contest as well . I have recipes that are being included in a veg family's upcoming cookbook too. I entered this contest because I hoped to get a few vegan recipes in the cookbook in the baking category which is usually laden with dairy and eggs . So I was THRILLED when out of the blue I received a copy of the just published cookbook with a cover letter congratulating me on the inclusion of 2 of my recipes .Upon opening the book I found my name ,location and the recipes . YIPPPEE ! I opened the book and was thrilled to see that 1 of my recipes had merited a full page color photograph J Then I read the recipe ... Without my permission Rodale Altered my recipe 1st by omitting earth balance or other " vegan margerine " with :transfree margarine or BUTTER (!!) melted AND then ener-g egg replacer for 2 eggs with " 2 EGGS ,LIGHTLY BEATEN " I felt like someone had kicked me in the stomach! I only entered this contest because the site promised that entrants retained ownership of their recipe . I thought that this protected me from them tampering with my recipe and allowed me to share it while retaining ownership ! To add insult to injury , when submitting the recipe I added a comment about how nibbling these muffins during holiday baking helped stave off overindulgance ! It may not seem like a big deal to a dietary vegan , but I am a very committed ethical vegan and it is so upsetting to have my recipe unveganized and published in a big glossy NATIONAL cookbook with my name attached to it and a comment like that .They ALTERED MY RECIPE TO INCLUDE ANIMAL PRODUCTS ! Here is a link to the cookbook and a user review which gives the recipe ,my Whole-wheat cranberry orange muffins a 5 star review ! http://www.rodalestore.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?cata lo gId=10002 & storeId=10051 & productId=15976 & langId=-1 & source=msn%22 I am so totally upset I don't know where to begin or what to do I want the recipes out of the book with my name on it But They are already selling it !!!
