Guest guest
Hi All, I got a lot of excited responses to my idea of having a little vegan dinner potluck at ocean beach next week. So I am going to go ahead and announce it and solicit RSVP's Let's plan to meet at 6:10pm on Friday, Feb. 24 at Ocean Beach. Since it's a long beach, location TBA - I'll scout out a good spot and let guests know a couple days before. As I mentioned, the planet Mercury is most easily visible to the general public twice a year - in the northern hemisphere during a short time in spring in the evening and a short time in fall before sunrise. We're coming up on one of those times next week. I've picked the 24th so if you want to show it off to friends after the party you have a few days before it sinks back down out of view. So here's the plan: we'll meet at 6:10pm and eat and socialize. Bring your own plate, fork, drink, etc. Then, as twilight begins we'll be able to see Mercury, looking like a bright star. If any of you has a decent telescope let me know. Through a telescope Mercury may be visible as a teeny tiny half moon shape? Also, Mars and Saturn are out in the evening. So be sure to RSVP soon. Caveat: The bay area is not known as a great place for astronomy because of our terrible weather. We might have rain that night, or low clouds/fog. Even if it turns out to be clear that night be sure to dress warmly!! -DG
