Guest guest
From an email from HSUS: On June 14, the San Francisco Commission on Animal Control and Welfare will vote on an important resolution: one that would condemn the confinement of egg-laying hens in battery cages as cruel and inhumane -- which it certainly is. Showing the commission that there's public interest in this issue is critical. Please attend the commission meeting next Thursday and speak in support of this resolution. Your comments can be as simple as a statement of your name and address and one of the points below. Thursday, June 14 Time: 5:30 p.m. Location: San Francisco City Hall, Room 408 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, CA 94102 (see map) Don't forget to tell your friends and family in San Francisco to attend the meeting, too. Points to Remember The City and Country of San Francisco has a chance to take a stand against the cruelty inherent in battery cage egg production. The Commission should support Commissioner Philip Gerrie's resolution against battery cage confinement. Numerous Bay Area retailers, including Andronico's, Rainbow Grocery, and Whole Foods Market, already refuse to carry battery cage eggs. Other area groceries all carry cage-free eggs too. The City of Berkeley has passed a similar resolution. University of San Francisco, San Francisco State, and UC Berkeley have enacted policies to eliminate or greatly reduce their use of eggs from caged hens. Caged hens are among the most abused in the already cruel world of factory farming. Each bird has only 67 square inches of floor space -- smaller than a sheet of paper. A battery-caged hen cannot walk or spread her wings for her entire life. Thank you for all you do for animals! Sincerely, Wayne Pacelle President and CEO The Humane Society of the United States
