Guest guest
Hi Everyone! Is everyone still eating their leftovers from Thanksvegan Day? For a while now, I have been toying with the idea of organizing a quarterly vegan potluck in Hayward combined with a lecture series to educate people about health, nutrition, etc. My secret motive is to introduce people to how delicious and varied vegan food can be. I have done this before when I lived in NY and Tucson and both were met with huge success and enthusiasm. But Hayward has a different feel to it, much more blue collar, " I just want to go to work and then go home and watch tv " kind of families live around me. So I'm putting out feelers first. I want to see how much interest this would generate. Let me know if you would go out of your way attend something like this: and how would you doctor up this flyer? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NUTRITION and HEALTH SEMINAR with VEGAN POTLUCK at HAYWARD COMMUNITY CHURCH16 Main St. 94541 OPEN TO ALL BAY AREA RESIDENTS SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, from 5:3O-1O:OO pm With a dish to feed 5 people: admission is $4. Without it: $13. Volunteers and children 12 and under: FREE Please Bring: -A vegan dish to feed 5 people with a recipe/ingredient card (one dish per family, couple, or group of 3 is sufficient) -A re-usable mug -Your own plates and utensils if you can. Speakers: -Nutritionist Barbara Fellen, 15 year veteran of the " war on fat " and nationally proclaimed author discusses: metabolic typing, digestion, Type II Diabetes, Sugar and Artificial Sweeteners, Blood Pressure, Fat Loss Fact vs. Fiction, Osteoporosis, Cholesterol, Heart Health, Sleep and Energy, and Food Cravings. -Personal Trainer Peter Maslow enlightens us on which exercises build muscle, trim us down, tips on recuperating after a workout, best use of energy, and how to build the body you want in the most efficient way. Q and A will follow each speaker. To volunteer/set up; to RSVP; for easy vegan recipes; and for info on our special children’s event: contact xxx For directions: haywardcc.com or 51O-349-4117. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next potluck will probably be a sustainanble solutions panel (people talking about how to conserve energy in your house, go solar, etc}. 1. Any feedback onhow to doctor up the flyer? 2.I would also need vegan volunteers to be food runners. Would any of you be interested in that? Attendees will come in with their dishes and hand them off to you to put out on the buffet table. I need 3 people who know that jello or marshmallows has gelatin or what casein is, etc. We will have an " oops " table for things that have animal products. And please, only if you are forgiving, friendly, and supportive. More than anything I want this potluck series to be an ongoing ambassador for how fun and delicious and easy vegan eating is. Not how nasty or moody " those vegans " are when you put marshmallows in your food. I have to laugh at that last sentence! Lemme know whether you think this would fly, where to post flyers, how to change the wording, etc. Thanks and Blessings!
