Chance for land for a wildlife hospital in SF! Can you help? Pass

PLEASE CROSS POST TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY IN SAN FRANCISCO

Dear Friends,

Exciting NEWS! The SF Public Utilities Commission is hosting a

meeting to get public input about land use at Lake Merced in San

Francisco. One Scenario being proposed is to not renew the lease of

the gun club at Lake Merced, and found SF's first wildlife hospital! I

hope you will all help me reach out to those who can come to this

meeting, to help make this possible. Public input is critical.

Help us take advantage of a golden opportunity to help San Francisco’s

injured, orphaned, sick and oiled wildlife! Please mark your

calendars to support the founding of a Wildlife Care And Nature

Education Center at Lake Merced

April 22 6pm - 8pm

Lawton at 29th Avenue (Sunset Community Center)

San Francisco is one of the few Bay Area counties without a wildlife

hospital. Birds currently receive care outside county – often

involving delays which affects birds’ chances of survival.

San Francisco has extraordinarily rich biological diversity. 1.6

million water birds use our coastline annually, and of the hundreds of

bird species visit or live here. 70% of our songbirds are “in peril

due to loss of habitat” according to the 2007 Audubon Society report.

We need a wildlife hospital in San Francisco!

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is going through a public

process to determine future land use around Lake Merced. The public is

asked to comment on two land use scenarios:

1. Wildlife Hospital And Nature Education Center, (including picnic

areas, bird and butterfly gardens and more) + boating facilities (new

use)

2. Gun Club skeet and trap shooting (existing) and boating facilities

The land use decision at Lake Merced will be made by the PUC, based

largely on public input.

YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED AT THE APRIL 22 MEETING TO HELP OUR WILDLIFE

Please print and distribute/post this flyer to alert others about this

meeting.
