PETA has the following employment opportunities available. The right

candidate could work from our beautiful office on Lake Merritt in

Oakland.

 

Animals in Entertainment Campaigner

Position Objective:

To help coordinate PETA's circus campaigns and work with animal

rights activists across the country to draw attention to the cruelty

inherent in using animals for entertainment

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Assistant Director of Animals in Entertainment Campaigns

Primary Job Duties:

Develop public-education and media campaigns about animals in

entertainment

Research, write letters, and make phone calls about campaign issues

Work with the Marketing Department to promote PETA's animals in

entertainment campaign issues online

Contact activists across the country and help them organize

demonstrations, tabling, and other events

Conduct media interviews and work with media outlets to promote

campaigns and ensure that PETA's message is seen and heard

Travel throughout the country, as needed, to facilitate and

participate in demonstrations, tabling, and special events

Perform step-backs at least bi-weekly to analyze the success of the

campaign and its many facets, brainstorm, or consider issues relating

to the campaign

Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

One to two years of college or equivalent experience required

Willingness and ability to participate in and promote a variety of

provocative and progressive campaigns and demonstrations

Ability to communicate with a variety of people in a personable

manner

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with activists to mount

effective public campaigns

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to think creatively

Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and a commitment to the

objectives of the organization

Must be at least 21 years of age

Must have a valid driver's license with three years' clean driving

record

Willingness to travel extensively

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Animals in Film, TV, and Advertising Specialist

Position Objective:

To investigate, intervene, and stop the abuse of animals used in

movies, television, and advertising and educate the entertainment

industry and the public about the cruelty inherent in using animals

for these purposes

 

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Assistant Director of Animals in Entertainment Campaigns

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Respond to inquiries and complaints and obtain information about

animals used in film, TV, and advertising via telephone, the

Internet, and reference sources

Educate the public about inhumane treatment of animals used in these

industries through the development and distribution of literature

Present PETA's position on individual cases and animal abuse issues

to print, radio, and television media

Work with PETA's Communications Department to generate media coverage

of our efforts

Identify, brainstorm, and recommend campaigns to expose abuses and

alleviate the suffering of animals used in movies, television, and

advertising

Work with PETA's Marketing Department to help draw attention to these

issues, drive traffic to our Web sites, and create other interactive

online campaigns to increase awareness of the issue

Mobilize PETA members and activists through letters, phone calls, and

action alerts to contact elected officials, businesses, and sponsors

Monitor and support legislative efforts and the development of

industry guidelines to ban, restrict, or improve conditions for

animals used in movies, television, and advertising

Develop and maintain relationships with various animal experts to

obtain assistance with specific cases and legislation

Attend industry conferences with PETA's great-apes exhibit

Perform step-backs at least bi-weekly to analyze the success of the

campaign and its many facets, brainstorm, or consider issues related

to the campaign

Maintain confidentiality at all times

Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

Proven exceptional writing and research skills

Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA's philosophy and ability to

professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues

Good proofreading and organizational skills

Ability to handle cruelty-complaint calls in a professional and

confidential manner

Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work

Commitment to the objectives of the organization

affecting animals used in circuses

Educate the public about the humane treatment of animals by writing

Web features, action alerts, correspondence, and briefing materials

on circus-related topics

Present PETA's position on individual cases and animal abuse issues

to print, radio, and television media

Meet with newspaper editors about various issues related to animals

in circuses

Work with PETA's Marketing Department to drive traffic to our Web

site, and create other interactive online campaigns to increase

awareness of the suffering of animals used in circuses

Develop and maintain relationships with various experts who can

assist with our circus campaign through a variety of networking

opportunities

Represent PETA and speak about circuses that use animals at

conferences and conventions

Perform step-backs at least bi-weekly to analyze the success of the

campaign and its many facets, brainstorm, or consider issues related

to the campaign

Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

Proven exceptional writing, research, and proofreading skills

Degree in a related field

Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA's philosophy and the ability to

professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues

Ability to handle cruelty-complaint calls in a professional and

confidential manner

Good organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks

and prioritize work

Ability to make independent decisions in crisis situations that

require authority intervention

Ability and willingness to travel when needed

Must be at least 21 with a valid driver's license and three years'

clean driving record

Good public-speaking skills

Casework-related mediation or intervention experience

Commitment to the objectives of the organization
