5/31 rally: GOLDEN GATE Walk to STOP the aerial spray program

 

Dear Loved Ones, Because I do not want to see my family, community,

and the

creatures of California sprayed relentlessly with untested (and

*known-toxic*) chemicals, I am sending you this announcement.

 

The slight postponement in the onset of aerial spraying of the Bay Area

(now set to begin August 17, to continue indefinitely), was only

achieved

through agitation by large numbers of people (mostly from Santa Cruz,

where

they experienced the spray and know they do not want more). Their

desperate

actions finally drew media attention.

 

We all heaved a sigh of relief and thought we could relax after a Judge

postponed spraying in Santa Cruz and The Governor said he would order

safety testing. But there's a lot more going on under the surface of

the

headlines. It has become obvious that the so-called testing is

intended to

be just a momentary hitch in the proceedings. There are big plans for

this

program. See info in links at the bottom of this message.

 

We need to mobilize and prevent the CDFA from going ahead with this

unnecessary onslaught, against a moth that is NO threat to any crop

here,

but only a " pest on paper " (a threat to some trade agreements).

Huge Rally on the Golden Gate Bridge

 

STOP THE LBAM SPRAY PROGRAM

SAT. MAY 31, 2008

9 am - 12 noon

 

Gather at 9 a.m. Walk starts at 10 a.m. Off Bridge by Noon

 

RALLY (bring your lunch) at noon at Crissy Field

 

San Francisco side, Bridge Parking Lot Park (car pool) at the East

Battery

parking lot off Lincoln Blvd. just below Marin side, Vista Point

Parking Lot.

After walk take Coastal Trail from Bridge Parking Lot to Mason St and

Crissy Field.

 

Gather at both the SF side, main parking lot, and Marin side, Vista

Point

main after parking in the overflow lot, at 9. Bridge walk starts from

both

ends and we are now suggesting that we meet in the middle and turn

around

to return so that folks coming in from the Marin side can then get their

vehicles back over to the SF side for the Rally that starts at noon at

the

Historic Airfield, west end of Crissy Field and the SF folks end up

back on

the SF side for the Rally.

 

If you can't make the walk, come to the rally.

 

Rally 12 noon (bring your lunch) West End of Crissy Field,

between Mason Street and Marine Sanctuary Visitor Center.

Here are some things you probably already know: We do not know what

will

be in the spray, it could be changed at any time. There is absolutely no

good reason for spraying; the moth should be re-classified and the

" state

of emergency " should be dissolved. Did you know that most of the

money for

this program comes from Homeland Security? That other states have their

eyes on this program as a way to bring money to their state? That

hundreds

of seabirds are known to have died from the spraying of Santa Cruz last

fall? And of course that people there turned in hundreds of reports of

health problems. And they say that the experience of being sprayed (for

several nights each month) is " like being in a war zone. " And the

stuff is

in microscopic plastic pellets that penetrate deep into the lungs. And

the

chemicals do not go away, and are re-activated by water. Cats and

rabbits

died, birds vanished, bees were noticeably affected with unknown

results.

What will happen to homeless people, who cannot take shelter as people

are

directed to do?
