Guest guest
I learned early on that there has to be an ethical basis for one's veg*ism; otherwise it is very easy to backslide.? In 1987 or 1988, I met a woman with San Diego Animal Advocates who said she first became veg for health reasons, and thus saw no harm in eating flesh on special occasions (e.g., Thanksgiving).? But she said when she learned about animal rights and the cruelty of modern factory farming (animal concentration camps), there was no going back--she's been veg since then. ---Vasu vasumurti sunny outdoors <sunny_outdoors sf veg Wed, 25 Jun 2008 6:55 am why veg folks went back to eating meat and why some veg folks will never go back.... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,63146,00.html A friend told me most?folks who are veg for animal rights reason, not for?health reason, tend to stay veg the longest or forever... - A full time prominent?animal rights person, said, despite, all that's done to promote vegetarism, the % is still about the same, which is very low... == I'm guessing based on various studies,, veg is around 4-5% , vegan is 1%,????(off by plus or minus 1%) nationwide in America sorry the figures are not exact, but you get the ball park figure
Guest guest
vegans, veggie folks, when talking or emailing to people , please tone down, YOu want to communicate with people without in a " arguing " tone of voice. YOu may voice your opinion in a more gentle manner. If you talk like this to a fellow vegetarian , I wonder how it will feel, if the person listening to you is a meat eater.. below is an example, the " tone " of voice that turns people off, and by the way, my quote that vegetarism has not increased that much. The INFO was from an active full time animal rights person. (yes, it was his career for MANY MANY years- l/3 of his life) and my quote on the % of vegetarians in United States is from Vegetarian Times which is PRO vegetarian magazine (yep) == I don't see my friends or families or co workers, turning vegetarians like " hot cakes " ,..... Due to education, the past 10 years there IS an increase of people turning VEGAN, overall vegetarisim, unless there's another extensive study, Various sources including the New York Times, says it's around 5%. that's my personal observation.. this email was not directed personally to anyone or mean, I just want a few folks to be aware, of how they say things. I also have to watch out too. One of the hardess things for a newbie vegetarian to deal with , is the " social " aspect of being a vegetarian. (which I will not get into) xxxx sunny outdoors <sunny_outdoors Thursday, June 26, 2008 10:32:49 AM Re: why veg folks went back to eating meat First, I am too busy to search. Second, I don't believe this figure, having been a vegan for over 28 years and witnessed the extreme shift in values in the world and this country toward awareness and practice of vegetarianism. But who cares? It won't change my life one way or the other. If you want to worry about something, worry about where we will get enough water to maintain our country's agricultual base over the next fifty to one hundred years. That I would consider worthwhile to ponder. If you choose to believe Fox or Vegetarian Times or whatever, great. I don't. sunny outdoors <sunny_outdoors To: Thursday, June 26, 2008 12:35:08 AM Re: why veg folks went back to eating meat vegetarian times and others said, not more than 5% are vegetarians, and many other sources if you have a better source, pls pull it out hey, there's a reason why veg restaurant most of them go out of business.!! xxxx sunny outdoors <sunny_outdoors Wednesday, June 25, 2008 7:20:37 PM Re: why veg folks went back to eating meat Outrageously biased, but understandably so since it is from FOX news. I find it extremely difficult to believe only 2.5% of Americans are vegetarian, but understand the propaganda being fed to us through the media. The very fact that this is an issue tells me that someone is irked at the rise in veg-friendliness, and that someone is determined to fight back. Read the article and all the BS from the meat industry spokepersons who are bought and paid for by guess who? I believe this article is barely fit for toilet paper. sunny outdoors <sunny_outdoors sf veg Wednesday, June 25, 2008 6:55:57 AM why veg folks went back to eating meat and why some veg folks will never go back.... http://www.foxnews. com/story/ 0,2933,63146, 00.html A friend told me most folks who are veg for animal rights reason, not for health reason, tend to stay veg the longest or forever... - A full time prominent animal rights person, said, despite, all that's done to promote vegetarism, the % is still about the same, which is very low... == I'm guessing based on various studies,, veg is around 4-5% , vegan is 1%, (off by plus or minus 1%) nationwide in America sorry the figures are not exact, but you get the ball park figure
