Guest guest
AB 815 & AB 2427 - Oppose Both AB 2427 and AB 815 are on Governor Schwarzenegger's desk for signing. Please take action TODAY! AB 2427 (Assemblymember Eng) takes away the rights of cities and counties to enact a multitude of animal welfare laws. It is sponsored by the California Veterinary Medical Association, who has been vigorously trying to overturn West Hollywood's ban on the painful declawing of cats. AB 815 - Hunting and Fishing -(Assemblymember Berryhill) takes away the rights of cities and counties to enact local wildlife-related laws. If signed into laws, the ONLY entity in the state permitted to make regulations regarding hunting and fishing in California would be the Department of Fish and Game. What you can do - Contact the Governor and ask him to VETO both AB 815 and AB 2427. Save shelter animals - don't let Hayden be repealed The Hayden Act has saved countless lives by providing monetary reimbursement to shelters who extend the wait period from 72-hours to 4-6 business days. The current budget does not include money for the Hayden Act. What you can do - Contact your state representatives and Governor Schwarzenegger and ask that funds for the Hayden Act be included in the budget. Guest guest
Thanks, Miriam! Since some of the text was hyperlinked, here is contact information for the Governor. All you have to do is call the office and encourage a veto of AB 815 & 2427 as well as encourage an inclusion of monies for the Hayden Act (re shelter animal holding periods, see below). Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger State Capitol Building Sacramento, CA 95814 Phone: 916-445-2841 Fax: 916-558-3160 ( new number ) http://gov.ca.gov/interact#email = email form For the Hayden Act/Bill, there are two key representatives who people should contact (according to League of Humane Voters). As a quick background, the Hayden Act was passed about 10 years ago and encouraged shelters to extend the mandatory wait period from a measly 72 hours to a lengthier 4-6 business days. It also required that shelters contact breed/all breed rescues before euthanasia (for adoptable animals). This bill reimbursed shelters who implemented the requirements set forth by the Hayden Act. Because of the budget " crisis " , funds for this important Act are not being included. Dogs and cats deserve as much of an opportunity at adoption as possible - 72 hours just isn't enough. Please contact the Governor and the legislators below and ask that the Hayden Act be reinstated in the Budget.
