Guest guest Posted September 30, 2008 Report Share Posted September 30, 2008 Proclamation City and County of San Francisco WHEREAS, the San Francisco Vegetarian Society, made up entirely of volunteers, is celebrating its 40th anniversary, educating the public on the health, ecological, spiritual, and compassionate nature of a plant-based diet; and WHEREAS, a plant-based vegan diet is truly a green diet that reduces the serious ecological problems involved in livestock production including fossil fuels consumption that is used in the transporting of animal feed and also of the animal from feedlots to slaughterhouses and to supermarkets; and WHEREAS, the consumption of livestock utilizes vanishing water supplies; depletes our precious topsoil; pollutes our water with waste containing salmonella, e-coli, and antibiotic substances; pollutes our air with ozone destroying methane; and causes destruction of Rain Forests and wildlife habitat, and WHEREAS, a plant-based vegan green diet promotes good health and counteracts obesity, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and other degenerative diseases commonly reflected in this nation's population; now THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Gavin Newsom, Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco, do hereby proclaim October 4-5, 2008 as… WORLD VEG FESTIVAL WEEKEND IN SAN FRANCISCO! IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City and County of San Francisco to be affixed.
