Persistent Vegetative State

By Hiya Swanhuyser

As far as we can tell, doctors don't study nutrition. In fact, if

you ask a regular medical doctor about the relationship between what

you eat and how you feel, you're likely to get a condescending look

and a recommendation to " make low-fat choices in your lifestyle " or

some such boilerplate. Thus, we reason that it's a very good idea to

educate yourself about the subject. At the World Veg Festival, a

bunch of people the meat and dairy and medical industries would very

much like you to think of as kooks present their own conclusions

about vegetarianism, which seems like a good place to start your

education. It's not that anyone disputes the fact that vegetarianism

is cheaper, healthier, more sustainable, more humane, cleaner, and

when done right, totally delicious. It's just that doctors can't

responsibly recommend it, since it's not part of their training. Hm.

John Robbins, reps from www.organicathlete.org, and a pack of

maverick doctors speak over the two days of the fest, which also

features cooking demos, food, and arboretum tours.
