And, my veg speaking engagements are piling up. A few days after last Tuesday, many of my speaking contacts wrote to confirm dates and times for veg talks. I will be speaking to the clean air and waste society in December and will look up the resources you sent in a previous message to firm up my material. Next week I address two classes of chefs-in-training on the Vegetarian Lifestyle. If you've got any ideas about that, I'd appreciate hearing them. But back to politics – yes, you did receive a vote for president of the United States of America! I actually spent time debating my vote though – more time than I ever would have imagined. The local paper ran an issue comparison sheet between McCain and Obama and I was surprised at how many of McCain's positions I preferred. Once a Republican always a Republican, I suppose. However, I wanted to vote Pro-Life and that left me with vegans to choose from. The local media had been polling for weeks and Missouri was still too close to call by election day, so I imagined a scenario whereby just as the 2000 election came down to Florida and the 2004 election came down to Ohio, the 2008 election would come down to the vote in Missouri, and the press would come to learn of a vote cast for a vegan! So I wondered, were you worthy of all this publicity? Or should the limelight shine on someone like Gary Francione? After all, Francione has been listed on Big Ag's enemies list. Again, I was amazed at how much time and mental energy I was applying toward this decision!!! Bob Linden or Gary Francione? The radio program host, or college professor? Hmmm. I'm a huge fan of Francione, but come on! - Republicans align with radio talk show hosts, which meant you won out! I don't know if the local board of election has recorded my vote. I'll try to visit their web site once the vote is finalized (it may not be until Thanksgiving from what I'm hearing) to see if your name made the list of candidates receiving votes. I'll email the link to you if you're listed. I still owe you a donation. You may hear back from me about some fundraising ideas (time to think like a Republican, Bob) I've been kicking around. But that must wait for another time. I must return to my crazy busy schedule. As usual, keep up the great work, Julia Hi Julia, This is so funny. I'm now forming an exploratory committee for 2012 (if Obama doesn't make veganism his domestic and global policy) - and perhaps with you as co-chair, it would show vegans don't just talk bipartisan, they're willing to party with all parties at all times - to spread our pro-life propaganda. Thanks so much for your vote which gives me new national clout, credibility, and exposure. Don't think that awhile back when you said you were voting for me that I didn't think - what if Missouri were the deciding state and it came down to one vote? So, Julia - I'm going to take your vote (when you send me the link) and build my base from there. Republicans are lost now, and the only way they can turnaround would be if they embraced something - perhaps we can call it - " compassionate conservatism " - or did I hear that somewhere before? In any case, the visionless Republicans could turn the whole thing around just by making veganism the centerpiece of their platform. What do you have to lose - except election after election? Incidentally - please fast forward your ipod when you hear me talking about Republiarcons on this - and recent - programs, as I would still be interested in your Republican fundraising ideas to support my pro-life radio program. In fact - maybe you can just put a simple message out there in your Republican circles to donate to the most pro-life radio show there is. Just don't tell your friends that the program actually supports life after birth - and don't tell them about being pro-life for other species. Also, could you please ask your religious Republican friends to check out the diet that's pretty much one page one of the bible. Maybe the evangelicals could adopt an EAT BIBLICALLY campaign, the capitalists can cash in on a green economy, and - abracadabra - you've solidified your bases. (...just practicing for Meet dePress - meat depress...)) There's a website in the UK - I think it's 101 Reasons to Go Vegetarian - and that will have more environmental information, a lot of good air pollution stuff. Check www.suprememastertv.com for environmental info related to global warming, etc. Methane is the monster - and processes keep churning it out - microorganisms and dung, melting arctic ice, cow burps... In addressing chefs - I don't know - maybe impress upon them that this is the way of the future and demand is increasing for vegan options. Are you talking tofu, tempeh, seitan, etc. for meat textures? Suggest nutritional yeast for cheesey flavor...bananas instead of eggs for binding......creating nut cheeses...or using Follow Your Heart cheese...vegenaise... Okay...gotta go - Obama's on the other line wanting to know what I meant by meat and dairy causing the economic collapse of western (un)civilization.
