Guest guest
Re: Maharani Express opens tomorrow + Medicine > It's a mixed restaurant with some vegan choices. The owner is Joy, who's a veg person. This restaurant venture he has 2 other partners. I know restaurants are businesses and they are opened as for-profit entities. I can understand a carnivore/omnivore who opens a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. Or a carnivore/omnivore chef who works at a vegan restaurant. But, I am puzzled as to why a veg*n would *own* a restaurant that serves animals (even if some of the options are vegan). While it's great that mixed restaurants offer veg*n foods, I would really encourage folks that whenever you can, please patronize/support the all-veg restaurants. They are the ones who really have a vision and are taking a larger risk in not profitting from the sale of animals. You can find a list of all the veg restaurants in the Bay Area online in the Ultimate Guide at http://bayareaveg.org/ug Additionally, you can even print a free guide, too; link is on the page above. Speaking of restaurants, Udupi (which is entirely vegetarian and recently opened in SF) seems to have found its legs and is doing good business. I've been there a handful of times, service & food has consistently been good. And they aren't "empty" like other restaurants. Likewise, Good Karma in San Jose (all vegan restaurant) had a line out the door last Friday, and Vegetarian House was also nearly full (and it's a large restaurant). Guest guest
And luckily, ChaYa is often full. The last few times I've been to Cafe Gratitude for birthday parties, it's been very slow. Is it because of the new menu? I went a few days ago for a friend's party. He and all of his friends eat meat and they loved it.If you need a last minute gift, take a friend or family member out to dinner at a veg restaurant. It's much better than stuff, you get to spend time together, and support a veg restaurant.Happy Holidays,Rose Reporter & Host, KALW 91.7 FM in San Francisco Your Call - 11:00 am - Noon PST -- now on KUSP 88.9 FM in Santa Cruz500 Mansell StreetSan Francisco, CA 94134office: 415.841.4121http://www.yourcallradio.org/Check out my new book Red Highways!http://booktour.com/author/rose_aguilar
