Guest guest
Adam Don't dispair...it's all in the neighborhood you are in. San Diego does have an active military base but there is also a large ex hippy like population. There ARE healthfood stores there...like most places it's diverse in terms of those who are into that and not so into it. Many people think Southern California is bereft of this sort of thing and it's just not true. There are many many healthfood stores in LA for example and I had read 60 veg restaurants! Nothing to sneeze at! I've been to Berkeley a lived there for a bit...and it is fun in many ways...but it was very, very crowded (high housing costs makes everyone have more roommates) and I found it impossible to ride my bike around because of the traffic. No area is perfect. Don't worry until you get there and find out for yourself. Kristina In a message dated 1/25/05 3:56:35 P.M. Yeah, I can totally understand that. However, they don't bother me. There are a lot of people, but everyone's pretty polite, and I don't push a cart (we're nearly always walking, so if it won't fit in a handbasket, it's probably too much to carry home), so I can move through the aisles pretty well, even when they're full. I don't know; it may be weird, but it's one of the beautiful things about moving here to me -- a place like Berkeley Bowl in San Diego (where I'm from) would never thrive -- hell, I saw more than one natural grocery store fold in my 26 years there. Here, it's packed all the time. I think that's beautiful. serene
Guest guest
see..we is all different ppl with different needs i have always found SoCal pretty dang soul less..(and i've lived there a bunch..born there..lived there til age 7..then back every summer til 18...then lived there from 86-89, and again in 98) i find it much to spread out, and you need a car to get anywhere as for the bay area, it was a whole heck of a lot cheaper up here when i first moved here..i had a whole house that cost me less then my dinky apartment in Huntington beach alas, times change.. to each their own cheers fraggle lv2breathe Jan 25, 2005 4:05 PM Cc: Lv2breathe Re: San Diego Adam Don't dispair...it's all in the neighborhood you are in. Guest guest
I was in San Diego with my family over winter break and we kept going back to eat at Nature's Express. It was so delicious! (There were some other /great/ veg restaurants in San Diego, including Sipz Fuzion Cafe, which is mostly Chinese, and Surati Farsan Mart, which is Gujurati, Indian.) Peace, Dan Here are the reviews of these restaurants that I wrote for VegDining.com: Billed as " healthier fast food " , Nature's Express is actually two separate yet attached vegan restaurants. One side is a self-serve buffet and the other is a drive through. The buffet (choose a small plate for $7 or a large for $10) has both cooked and raw vegan food, including tempeh salad, soy-rizo, pasta primavera, mashed potatoes, soups, stews, and more as well as raw stuffed tomato, raw Caesar salad, raw hummus, raw guacamole, raw beet salad, and a salad bar. They also have a variety of drinks, desserts, wraps and salads to go for extra. They also have coconuts as an added bonus. Literally everything we had was delicious! The drive through has burgers (including a raw burger), fries (even sweet potato fries), sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Nature's Express is incredible! Located in a strip mall, Sipz is a casual Asian fusion restaurant. We had spring rolls with peanut sauce, soba noodle soup with tofu triangles as well as orange chickn and garlic tofu, both with brown rice (for an extra dollar). All of their entrées come in a bowl and they discourage substitutions. We washed it down with earthy cold barley tea. While it isn't the best veg restaurant I've ever been to, I'm proudly wearing my Sipz Vegetarian t-shirt as I write this mini-review. Located in the same strip mall as KER and Madras, two other Indian vegetarian restaurants, Surati Farsan Mart (SFM) is a cut above. An attractive, warm-feeling restaurant, SFM specializes in Gujarati food and has a large selection of chaat/appetizers as well as dosas, specials, thalis, snacks, and sweets. While some of the food was quite spicy, all of it was absolutely delicious. We feel so lucky to have stumbled upon this amazing place and already can't wait to return to try some new items. The ONLY thing we didn't like was that they use single-use disposable plates, bowls, and flatware, which is so wasteful. wrote: > > <;_ylc=X3oDMTJlbTBmNnZzBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycE\ lkAzEwMjQ1MzA1BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTAxNTQ4MgRzZWMDaGRyBHNsawNocGgEc3RpbWUDMTIzNDI3OD\ E0Mw--> > > > > Messages In This Digest (1 Message) > > 1. > When in San Diego, check out this great new vegan restaurant <#1> > judithrg > > View All Topics > </messages;_ylc=X3oDMTJnc2xrNDd2BF9TAzk3MzU5N\ zE1BGdycElkAzEwMjQ1MzA1BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTAxNTQ4MgRzZWMDZG1zZwRzbGsDYXRwYwRzdGltZ\ QMxMjM0Mjc4MTQ0?xm=1 & m=p & tidx=1> > | Create New Topic > </post;_ylc=X3oDMTJndW82OGJjBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1B\ GdycElkAzEwMjQ1MzA1BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTAxNTQ4MgRzZWMDZG1zZwRzbGsDbnRwYwRzdGltZQMxM\ jM0Mjc4MTQ0> > > > > Message > > 1. > > > When in San Diego, check out this great new vegan restaurant > </message/3499;_ylc=X3oDMTJydXVoYXNjBF9TAzk3M\ zU5NzE1BGdycElkAzEwMjQ1MzA1BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTAxNTQ4MgRtc2dJZAMzNDk5BHNlYwNkbXNnB\ HNsawN2bXNnBHN0aW1lAzEyMzQyNzgxNDQ-> > > > > Posted by: " judithrg " judithrachelleg > <judithrachelleg?Subject=%20Re%3AWhen%20in%20San%20Diego%2C%20c\ heck%20out%20this%20great%20new%20vegan%20restaurant> > judithrg <http://profiles./judithrg> > > > Mon Feb 9, 2009 8:00 pm (PST) > > Near Balboa Park & patio is dog-friendly!
