Guest guest
Last week we had a meal at Millenium and got the SFVS 10% discount, and they even gave us an extra dessert as it was our anniversary, but there is something you should be aware of so you won't be surprised when you get the bill. On our bill we found a $2 charge for two waters. We paid the bill without question since the amount was trivial compared with the total cost of our bill. However as we got only tap water, we asked the hostess about this on our way out; she said that they make this charge for each patron who orders water, even though it is city tap water, in order to recover the cost of a new water filter that they've installed and that the charge is stated on the menu, although we didn't notice it when we read the menu. So if you go to Millenium, be aware that if you get tap water they will charge you $1 per order. I imagine that bottled water costs more. Guest guest
I don't plan on paying for tap water at a restaurant. What a misguided policy! I'll either negotiate it away before ordering or just boycott Millenium entirely. John
Guest guest
i think they have been adding this charge for a while. It was on my bill when i was last there in December. 2 extra dollars wont prevent me from eating at one of the finest vegan restaurants in the country! My last 2 trips to Millenium were truly outstanding meals!! phil Philip Gelb vegetarian chef shakuhachi player, teacher phil http://philipgelb.com http://myspace.com/inthemoodforfood http://myspace.com/philipgelb http://www.yelp.com/biz/in-the-mood-for-food-oakland On Feb 16, 2009, at 7:52 AM, John O'Grady wrote: > I don't plan on paying for tap water at a restaurant. Guest guest
As I understand it (from reading the menu), it filtered water. It's not unlike the filtered tap water that comes in a bottle. Some bottled water is " spring " and some is just filtered. Check the label. The main differences are: 1. It doesn't cost $1.50 to $4.00 per serving. It's $1.00 for unlimited refills. 2. It isn't the environmental disaster that bottled water is. I don't think my wife and I have ever left Millenium with a bill under $80. And you're planning to try to boycott them out of business because of a $1.00 charge for filtering the water on-site instead of trucking in over-priced water in plastic bottles? Brilliant. Maybe they'll give you a discount if you demand that they use plastic cutlery and styrofoam plates as well. ::shrug:: wp On Feb 16, 2009, at 7:52 AM, John O'Grady <jogradysings wrote: > I don't plan on paying for tap water at a restaurant. Guest guest
Here is an excerpt from a Millennium Restaurant emailing that I received last summer (7/19/2008): " Introducing Natura Just say no to bottled water...we have finally joined the progressive ranks of green restaurants. In a concerted effort to reduce recycling waste, combat high fuel charges & offer our guests an uncompromisingly high quality drinking water, we will begin serving water through a Natura Tap Water Filtration System. Starting this Wednesday, July 23rd, Millennium Restaurant will no longer offer imported bottled mineral water. We are very excited to introduce this system to the guests of our restaurant and hope you will enjoy San Francisco tap water safer & more delicious than ever! A charge of *$1/per seated guests affords an endless supply of fresh carbon & UV filtered water served chilled, room temperature or sparkling. * This dollar ensures regular visits from the H2O Technicians of Natura, the highest quality of carbon filter changes & UV light bulb maintenance. Regular tap water will not longer be available. " I hope that helps explain the water issue! Guest guest
my concern has nothing to do with bottled water. I expect air to breath and tap water to drink when I go to a restaurant. I don't ever want to be charged extra for these basic commodities. I beleive they should make a profit and that the cost of ventilation (air) and water should be included in the price of the food I eat. I am perfectly happy drinking San Francisco tap water. Millenium does not offer regular tap water and they charge $1 for filtered tap water. I have to draw the line somewhere or next thing you know they will be charging for the air we breathe. I suppose I could bring my own unfiltered tap water, but they would probably charge me a corkage fee. FREE THE TAP WATER!
